Chapter 275

Nicole didn’t want Christopher to think that she had no ability to solve her own problems.
She wasn’t one to rely on men, and she had been independent all this time.
“Chris said that I can go to him if I have difficulties,” Nicole said. “Mom, don’t worry. I’ll pay you back in no time.”
After settling the projects at Institute 511, Amelia found some time to return to Nova Nine and tie up some loose ends on some projects.
Although the workload was decreasing back at Nova Nine, she wanted to ensure that she continued doing her job well.
She had just finished consolidating the figures when Jasper walked to her.
“Nicole managed to fulfil the compensation, but Mr. Lewis was summoned to the police station and will probably be jailed.”
Amelia arched her brow. “He should have been locked up a long time ago. Supplying inferior materials in passenger aircrafts is just asking for death.”
“It’s all thanks to the due diligence you conducted, or we’d be the ones racking up the losses,” Jasper went on.
Amelia put the document in her hand down and tidied up her things. “That won’t happen. She snatched away every partner we tried to secure. We would never have ended up implicated.”
Winona overheard them as she walked out of the pantry. She said with a scoff, “Christopher is so generous. Did he cover Nicole’s losses this time?”
Amelia wasn’t surprised by that.
He was willing to invest billions of dollars in Nicole’s company. What was a hundred million?
Jasper shook her head. “She raised the money herself, saying that she didn’t want to rely on a man and could solve her own problems.”
Winona felt so disgusted, she almost spat her coffee out.
“She’s great at being two-faced,” Winona said as she rolled her eyes. “She’s acting tough while playing weak and vulnerable. I’m sure Christopher’s heart is breaking, looking at her running around raising funds.”
Women were just like that, acting tough in front of a man to attract his attention and make his heart ache for her.
Winona knew all about those tricks because she herself used to play them.
Amelia couldn’t help but chuckle at Winona’s words. Winora had always been sharp-tongued.
“What sharp eyes you have,” Amelia said.
“I should have lent you my eyes back then. How did you end up fancying and marrying a bastard like him?!” Winona muttered.
Amelia had just tidied up her things and carried her bag when she heard what Winona said. She smiled rather helplessly.
“Let’s not rake up the past again,” she sighed. “Why did my marriage leave such a blotch in my life that I just can’t seem to erase?”

Winona scoffed. “That’s because you married a bastard. I’m going to mock you for the rest of your life over this. I’ll see if you dare to be rash in jumping into marriage next time.”
Jasper shook his head and laughed at their conversation.
He turned around and started packing his things, too.
