Jasper nodded. “Fine. Go back and amend it. Now pack up, because we’re going for another meeting.”

Amelia looked up at him in confusion. “You didn’t say anything about a second meeting. Which company are we meeting?”

“You were so absorbed in coding, would you have heard what I said?” Jasper said with a laugh.

“Infotech wants a meeting with us. Phase one of the production stage is drawing to a close, and it’s about time for us to inspect the outcome. We agreed to meet over a meal. Three companies will be meeting to discuss the second phase of the project,” Jasper explained as he looked at Amelia. “If you don’t want to go, I can go by myself.”

As the chief engineer of the project, Amelia had to take responsibility for the entire project. How could she not be there?

She and Christopher were already divorced. There was no need for her to avoid them.

Amelia let her actions speak louder than words. She packed up her laptop and stood up. “Let’s go.”

She wanted to know the outcome of the first phase, too.

When they left the restaurant and stepped into the car, Jasper received a call from the car workshop as they were buckling their seatbelts.

He chatted with them for about one minute.

Amelia turned to look at him and asked, “What did they say? Did they find anything regarding the brakes?”

Jasper said, “They emailed you the results of their investigation and checks. Take a look at it.”

He handed his phone to Amelia, who was seated in the front passenger seat.

Amelia took his phone and read through the report.

She paused at the page on maintenance records. It was stated clearly that no checks or maintenance were done on the brakes.

The last time the brakes were checked was during the annual maintenance check. This month’s maintenance session didn’t include the brakes.

Amelia rubbed her temples as she read through the data.

“So it wasn’t a scheme someone devised?”

Jasper focused on the road ahead of him as he drove.

“Cloudway Technologies pulled out their surveillance camera footage after the incident, and it was clearly seen from various surveillance footage from different angles that no one came close to your car. If someone really plotted this, he must be highly skilled.”

Amelia placed the phone on the control panel. “I was careless.”

She didn’t make it clear what she wanted to check for during the monthly maintenance session.

In fact, the car had to undergo brute-force testing at every nual maintenance session, which was bound to be damaging to the car.

They would have to step hard on the brakes when they tested it.

“It was ultimately an issue with the brake pads,” Amelia concluded as she stared out of the window.

Even though this incident wasn’t a deliberate plot, she still felt lingering fear from it.

The situation back then was so dangerous, she thought she was doomed to die.

Thankfully…

She took a deep breath.

Jasper sensed something was wrong from the look on her face.

“It’s fine. You’ve got a new car now. Just pay attention to the brakes next time, especially when you know you’re driving up or down the mountains.”

Amelia shook her head. “I’m fine, I just couldn’t imagine it.’

She tried out racing for a period of time.

How could she be careless about such things?

Perhaps she had been too busy recently and had neglected many other details in life.

She had to figure out if there were other details she had been missing.

They arrived at the restaurant Infotech had made a reservation for.

The furnishings were all vintage, and they could hear the melodious sound of a classical piano drifting in the air when they walked in.

It felt serene and peaceful.

“This vibe screams Christopher Zephyr,” Jasper remarked.
