“As much as I appreciate the offer,” I said with a tight laugh, “I just got home from a trip. I haven’t even had a chance to unpack my bags.” I held up my duffle bag to prove it.
But Andrei didn’t budge. “So? It can wait.” He folded those perfect fucking arms across that perfect fucking chest. “Unless you think your bag is going to grow legs and run away while you’re not looking.”
I sighed, glancing at Damon. He just shrugged, just as surprised as I was. But we both knew that if I turned Andrei down now, it would just make me seem weak. And with Alina standing in the background, smiling encouragingly, I knew I couldn’t let her down.
“Well?” Andrei prompted, his green eyes cold and icy as a pine forest in winter. “Unless you’re afraid?”
Asshole. Of course he would make it like that, but it worked; it made it impossible to back down.
With a huff, I set my bag down. “Alright.”
A ripple of murmurs worked its way through the small crowd as I stepped into the ring. Andrei wired for me on the opposite side, his bare chest still gleaming with sweat from his previous match.
I flicked my gaze upward to his face, expecting to see a smirk or a lustful look, but instead I sav. ..ash of something dangerous in his eyes.
Was he angry about something? Was this about the moments we’d shared in the woods, during the full moon? Maybe I had been foolish in hoping that he would understand that it was just biology on both our parts, nothing
more.
It wasn’t as if either of us had actually wanted to have sex…
Right?
“Let’s see what Alina has taught you,” he said once I was ready, dropping into a fighting stance.
I mirrored his position, my palms suddenly damp. He advanced before I even had a chance to breathe.
His fist came flying toward my face, and I barely had time to dodge. Years ago, I would have frozen, but Alina’s training had paid off. I ducked under his arm and spun away, putting some distance between us.
“Not bad,” Andrei grunted. “But you’re too slow. Again.”
This time when he came at me, I was ready. I blocked his punch and countered with one of my own, aiming for his ribs. He sidestepped easily, but I managed to clip his shoulder. It wasn’t much, but it was something.
“Your form is sloppy. Keep your elbows in.”
I gritted my teeth.
For the next ten minutes, we circled each other, trading blows. I landed a few–a kick to his thigh, a jab to his side -but he landed more.
And each time, whether I failed or succeeded, he would have something to nitpick.
bes?
“You’re telegraphing your moves. I can see what you’re going to you do it.”

“You’re ducking too soon.”
“You’re being lazy. Your footwork is sloppy.”

Each time, I bit my tongue and took it. But with each insult, my frustration grew. Nothing seemned to satisfy him. And the fight never ended—not even when my lip became split from a miscalculated jab or when he hit my shoulder so hard I cried out in pain.
