Reclaimed By My Alpha (Natalia and Andrei) novel Chapter 362

Natalia’s POV

The morning air was crisp against my face as Andrei and I stood at the border between Moonshadow and Aspen, watching the construction crews work on the wall extension. The sound of hammers against stone echoed across the clearing, punctuated by the occasional shout from a supervisor directing his men.

Catherine stood beside me with her arms crossed over her chest as she surveyed the progress with a critical eye. Her husband, Edmond, was deep in conversation with Andrei about the placement of watchtowers. They seemed to be in the midst of a minor argument about it, which I didn’t feel like getting involved in.

The foundation looks solid,Catherine remarked, nodding toward where the workers were laying massive stones. No rogues will get through once that wall is up.

Good,Andrei said, having overheard Catherine. He and Edmond strode over, and the glance he gave me spoke volumes.

I touched my belly absently, feeling the slight swell beneath my coat. After the attack the other day, Andrei had been beside himself with worry. He’d scolded me for practically the entire afternoon after I told him what happened, then made love to me all night out of fear. I assured him that it was really my fault for venturing out on my own, but he was still terrified.

So was I, if I was being honest. I tried not to show it, though.

Just then, a sudden shout from one of the workers caught our attention. He was pointing toward the tree line, where several dark figures had emerged from the shadows. My blood went cold as I recognized their rancid scents even from here.

Rogues.

Everyone down!Andrei roared, already reaching for his weapons. The construction workers scattered, some grabbing weapons, others diving behind piles of stone.

But as the rogues charged, it became clear to me that they weren’t here for a general attack. Even as Catherine and Edmond called out orders to their warriors and the battle began, three of them broke away from the main group and beelined for me.

I reached for my knife, the ruby stones catching the morning light as I pulled it from its sheath. It began to buzz with that familiar energy the moment I wrapped my fingers around it, as if absorbing the fear and shock I felt in that split second.

The first rogue reached us before anyone could intercept him. He lunged at me, but Andrei was faster. My mate slammed into the attacker’s side, sending them both tumbling to the ground.

The second rogue circled around the fight and sprinted at me. I raised my knife, channeling my fear and anger into the blade until the rubies began to glow. The weapon sang through the air, striking the rogue in the shoulder and spinning him around.

But it wasn’t a killing blow. He staggered, then regained his footing, clutching his bloodied arm. If anything, the wound just made him angrier.

You’re coming with us, bitch,he growled, lunging forward again.

Gasping, I sidestepped and slashed at him with the curved Bloodmoon sword from my belt, opening a gash across his ribs. The rogue howled in pain but didn’t retreat. Instead, he grabbed my wrist, trying to wrestle the weapon away from me.

Let go of her!Catherine’s voice cried out as she barreled into the rogue, her own blade finding its mark between his ribs. The rogue’s grip on me loosened, and he crumpled to the ground, gasping his last breaths.

Around us, the battle was intensifying. More rogues had emerged from the forest, but our warriors were holding their ground. The third rogue who’d been targeting me was nowhere to be seen until I felt hands grab me from behind. I spun around, driving my elbow into his stomach, but he held fast.

I’m supposed to bring you back alive,he hissed in my ear, his breath hot and foul smelling against my neck. But he didn’t say you had to be unharmed.

With a clench of my teeth that was so hard I felt my jaw click, I called my ruby knife back to my hand. It sliced through the air toward us with a metallic whistle. The rogue must have sensed it coming because he tried to use me as a shield, but I ducked low at the last second. The blade caught him in the throat, and his grip on me released as he fell backward, choking on his own blood.
