Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack novel Chapter 121

Chapter 121

Damon pov

I’d barely settled back into the chair, exhaustion finally beginning to catch up with me now that Evelyn and Willow were being moved toward the secured guest wing, when the realization hit me with sudden, sharp clarity.

My father. Making calls, coordinating security, pushing for emergency council sessions, all of it demanding physical and emotional energy his body genuinely couldn’t afford to spend, not this soon after major cardiac surgery, not with his heart still recovering from an event that had nearly killed him only weeks earlier.

I’d been so consumed by fear for Evelyn, by the urgent need to protect her and the baby, that I’d completely failed to notice how thoroughly I’d allowed my father to throw himself back into exactly the kind of high-stress, demanding pack leadership his healers had explicitly warned against.

Guilt-flooded through me immediately, sharp and uncomfortable, understanding I’d essentially allowed him to risk his own fragile recovery in service of protecting my family, without once stopping to actually consider the genuine danger that represented for him specifically.

I pulled out my phone immediately, texting him despite knowing he was likely still occupied with security arrangements.

*Dad, stop. You need to rest. I shouldn’t have let you take on this much stress, not with your heart still recovering. Please, go back to the medical wing, let the healers actually monitor you properly.*

The response came within a few minutes, and I felt a fresh wave of guilt reading it.

*I’m okay, son. Genuinely. I appreciate the concern, but this is important, and I want to help.*

I stared at the message, understanding immediately that his careful reassurance likely masked genuine strain he wasn’t fully acknowledging, old patterns of prioritizing pack responsibility over his own wellbeing apparently not fully broken despite everything else that had genuinely shifted these past several weeks.

*Please,* I texted back. *I mean it. I can’t lose you because I let fear for Evelyn override actually protecting your health too. Go rest. I’ll handle the rest of the coordination myself.*

Another pause before his response arrived. *I felt fear too, Damon. For all of you. That’s part of why I couldn’t simply sit back and rest while genuine danger threatens my family. But you’re right that I need to be more careful. I’ll head back to the medical wing now, let them properly monitor me.*
