Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack novel Chapter 122

Chapter 122

“Exactly,” I said, relief flooding through me at his genuine acceptance rather than continued resistance. “Let Callum and me handle the active coordination. You can still contribute-advice, connections, whatever wisdom your experience actually offers—but from the medical wing, properly resting, allowing your body the genuine time it needs to heal.”

He nodded slowly, and I helped him stand, noticing more clearly now how much genuine effort even that simple motion required, guilt sharpening further at how thoroughly I’d failed to notice his obvious physical strain throughout the morning’s frantic activity.

I walked him back toward the medical wing myself, keeping pace with his slower, more careful movement, watching him with renewed attention for any sign of genuine medical distress rather than simply trusting his earlier verbal reassurances.

“I’m sorry,” I said, as we walked. “For letting this happen, for not noticing sooner how much strain I was allowing you to take on.”

“Don’t apologize,” he said, though his voice carried obvious fatigue now that he’d stopped actively fighting against acknowledging it. “You were focused on protecting your mate and children, exactly as you should have been. I’m the one who should have been more honest about my own limitations rather than continuing to push forward despite genuine physical strain.”

We reached the medical wing, and the healers immediately took over, checking his vitals with obvious professional concern, their expressions tightening slightly at whatever they found.

“Your heart rate’s elevated,” the lead healer said, adjusting his monitoring equipment. “Blood pressure higher than we’d like to see, given how recently you’ve had surgery. You need to actually rest now, Alpha Cross, properly, without continued stress or exertion.”

“I understand,” he said, settling back against the pillows with obvious, genuine exhaustion now that he’d finally stopped actively fighting against acknowledging his own physical limits.

I stayed for a while longer, watching the healers work, watching his vitals gradually settle into more reassuring numbers as actual rest finally began easing the strain he’d been carrying throughout the morning’s crisis.

“Thank you,” I said quietly, once the healers had finished their initial assessment and stepped back to give us a moment. “For everything you tried to do today, even if it wasn’t ultimately the wisest choice for your own health.”
