CHAPTER 90-1

Alpha Killian’s POV

I watched Darius leave the hospital room, shaking my head at how worked up he had gotten. The man was so whipped that he was forcing me, a fellow Alpha, out of his pack in the middle of the

night.

It was almost funny how desperate he was to get rid of me. Like sending me away would somehow erase what had happened between Clara and me.

But when I thought about it, Clara was sure as hell worth all this drama. Worth the fake seizure,

I

worth Darius’s threats, worth the risk of starting a war between our packs.

The memory of how she had felt in my arms, how she had responded to my touch despite trying to fight it, made my wolf purr with satisfaction.

Dr. Hayes returned a few minutes after Darius left, carrying a clipboard and looking much more relaxed now that the tension between the two Alphas had moved elsewhere.

How are you feeling now?he asked, checking the monitors one last time.

Much better,I replied honestly. The headache is gone, and I feel like myself again.”

Excellent. Your vital signs have been stable for over an hour now. I think you’re ready for

discharge.

Dr. Hayes went through the final checkup quickly, testing my reflexes and asking the standard questions about dizziness or nausea. I answered everything correctly, playing the part of a grateful patient who was eager to return home.

I’ll have the discharge papers ready in a few minutes,Dr. Hayes said. Alpha Darius mentioned that travel arrangements have been made for you?

Yes,I replied. I’ll be leaving shortly.

That much was true, though not in the way Darius expected.

Dr. Hayes finished his notes and left to prepare the paperwork. I waited until his footsteps faded down the hallway before getting up from the bed.

I had maybe thirty minutes before Xander would arrive with the travel papers and expect me to be on my way. Thirty minutes to say goodbye to Clara properly.

I made my way through the hospital wing and back toward the main packhouse. The corridors were mostly empty this late at night, with only a few night shift workers moving around quietly.

I reached Clara’s room and paused outside her door, listening carefully. I could hear movement/ inside, the sound of someone pacing back and forth.

She was still awake. Perfect.

I opened the door quietly and stepped inside. Clara was indeed pacing by her window, still wearing the thin nightgown from earlier. She spun around when she heard the door close.

Are you kidding me right now?she said, her voice sharp with frustration. Twice in one night?

What is wrong with you?

I smiled at her reaction. She was angry, which

was much more fun to deal with.

was better than scared or confused/Angry Clara

Hello to you too,I said calmly. Miss me already?

Miss you?Clara laughed, but there was no humor in it. I was hoping you’d crawled back to whatever hole you came from.

Such harsh words,” I said, moving closer to her. And here I thought we had a moment earlier.

We had nothing,Clara snapped. You broke into my room and took advantage of someone who

was half asleep.

Is that what happened?I asked, raising an eyebrow. Because I remember you being very much awake by the end.

Clara’s face flushed red, but whether from anger or embarrassment, I couldn’t tell.

What do you want now?she demanded. Haven’t you caused enough trouble for one night?

I came to say goodbye,I said simply. I’m leaving.

Clara blinked, clearly not expecting that response. You’re leaving?

Darius made it very clear that I’m no longer welcome here,” I explained. So I’m taking his advice and going home.

Good,Clara said quickly. Maybe now things can get back to normal.

Why are you telling me this?she continued, crossing her arms over her chest. And why should I

care?

I studied her defensive posture, the way she was trying to put distance between us even though we were in the same small room.

You’re right,I said. You probably don’t care. I just thought you should know.

CHAPTER 90-2

Clara frowned, like she had expected me to argue with her.

Is that it then?she asked. You’re just going to leave?

Not exactly,I replied, letting my smile return. I’ll be staying in the neighboring pack for a few days. Close enough tovisit if the mood strikes me.

Visit?Clara’s voice rose slightly. You’re not visiting anyone. You’re going home to your own

territory.

Eventually,I agreed. But not right away. I have some business to take care of first.

What kind of business?

The kind that involves a beautiful woman who’s been driving me crazy since the moment I met

her.

Clara’s flush deepened. Stop talking like that.

Like what?I asked innocently. Like a man who knows what he wants?

Like a man who can’t take a hint,Clara shot back. I’m not interested.

Your body says otherwise.

My body doesn’t get a vote.

laughed softly. Your body is the only part of you that’s being honest.

You’re impossible,Clara said, turning away from me.

And you’re beautiful when you’re frustrated,” I replied.

She spun back around to glare at me. Are you ever going to take no for an answer?

Probably not,” I admitted. At least not until you mean it.

I do mean it.

Do you?I challenged. Because if you really meant it, you would have called for help the moment I walked in here. You would have screamed for Darius or Xander or anyone else.

Clara opened her mouth to argue, then closed it again.

But you didn’t,I continued. You stood here and talked to me instead. That tells me everything I

need to know.

It tells you that I can handle myself,Clara said. Not that I want you here.

Can you handle yourself?I asked, taking another step closer. Because earlier tonight, you seemed pretty overwhelmed.

Get out,Clara said, but her voice lacked conviction.

I will,I promised. But first, I want you to know something.

What?

I’ll be waiting for you,” I said simply. In the neighboring pack. When you’re ready to stop lying to yourself about what you want, you know where to find me.

Clara shook her head. Dream on. I’m not going anywhere near you.
