CHAPTER 89-1
Alpha Darius’s POV
Killian’s words hit me like a slap across the face. The smug look on his face made my wolf snarl
with rage.
“You’re testing my patience,” I said, my voice low and dangerous. “And you’re about to cross a line
you can’t come back from.”
Killian just smiled wider, clearly enjoying how much he was getting under my skin.
“I’m not testing anything,” he replied calmly. “I’m simply stating facts. Clara is a grown woman who
can make her own decisions.”
“She’s made her decision,” I growled. “She chose me.”
“Did she?” Killian asked, tilting his head. “Or did you just assume she had no other options?”
I took a step closer to his bed, my hands clenched into fists. Every instinct I had was screaming at me to grab him by the throat and squeeze until he understood exactly who he was dealing with.
“You need to stay away from her,” I said, my voice deadly calm. “And you need to leave my pack
immediately.”
“Or what?” Killian challenged.
“Or I’ll make you leave in pieces.”
Killian laughed, actually laughed at my threat. “You know what’s funny about all this posturing?”
“Enlighten me.”
“You’re acting like I’m the only competition you have to worry about.”
I frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Ronan,” Killian said simply. “Word travels fast among Alphas, especially when we’re renewing treaties and sharing information.”
The mention of Ronan’s name made something cold settle in my stomach. I had noticed Ronan’s interest in Clara, but I had dismissed it as simple attraction.
“What exactly did you hear?” I asked, keeping my voice neutral.
“Enough,” Killian replied. “Pack members talk, especially when their Alpha shows unusual interest in a particular pack member during visits. My people picked up on it when they were arranging our

meeting.”

I cursed silently. Pack gossip traveled faster than wildfire, and if Killian’s people had heard about Ronan’s interest, then other packs probably knew too.
“Ronan is bound by our alliance,” I said firmly. “He wouldn’t cross that line.”
“Wouldn’t he?” Killian asked. “From what I heard, he’s been asking questions about her. Finding
excuses to extend his visits. That doesn’t sound like someone who’s respecting boundaries.”
I didn’t want to admit it, but Killian was right. Ronan had been showing too much interest in Clara, and I had been choosing to ignore it because of our alliance.
“Even if that were true,” I said, “it changes nothing. Clara is mine.”
“So confident,” Killian observed. “But if you’re really that sure of her feelings, why are you so
bothered by a little competition?”
The question hit closer to home than I wanted to admit. If I was completely certain of Clara’s loyalty, why was I so threatened by other Alphas showing interest in her?
“I’m not bothered,” I lied.
“Aren’t you?” Killian asked. “Because you seem pretty worked up for someone who has nothing to worry about.”
I stared at him, hating how easily he was reading me. Killian had always been good at getting under people’s skin, but this felt different. More personal.
“Here’s what I think,” Killian continued, clearly enjoying himself. “I think you’re scared that if Clara had real choices, real options, she might not choose you after all.”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t I?” Killian’s smile turned predatory. “You saved her life, gave her shelter, trained her, bedded her. But did you ever actually give her a choice? Or did you just assume that gratitude would be enough?”
His words stung because there was truth in them. I had never really courted Clara, never tried to win her affection. I had simply taken what I wanted and assumed she wanted it too.
“Clara stays with me because she wants to,” I said, but even I could hear the uncertainty creeping
into my voice.
“Does she?” Killian asked. “Or does she stay because she doesn’t think she has anywhere else to go?”

“Could she?” Killian pressed. “A rejected wolf with nowhere to go, no pack to return to? You really
think she sees leaving as an option?”
I was about to respond when there was a sharp knock on the door. Both Killian and I turned toward
the sound.

CHAPTER 89-2
“Enter” I called out, grateful for the interruption.
Xander stepped into the room, his face tense with worry. “Alpha, I’m sorry to interrupt, but we have
urgent matters that require your immediate attention.”
“What kind of matters?” I asked, though I was already moving toward the door.
“Border issues with the Eastern Pack,” Xander replied. “There’s been an incident involving their patrol and some of our workers clearing the road.”
I cursed under my breath. The last thing I needed right now was a territorial dispute with another
pack.
“How serious?” I asked.
“Serious enough that they’re demanding to speak with you directly,” Xander said. “They’ve sent an envoy who’s waiting in your office.”
I looked back at Killian, who was watching the exchange with obvious interest. Part of me didn’t want to leave him alone, but pack business had to take priority.
“Fine,” I said. “I’ll deal with it.”
I turned back to Killian, my expression hard. “This conversation isn’t over. But while I’m handling pack business, you’re going to leave. Immediately.”
“Am I?” Killian asked, still smiling.
“Yes, you are. I’ve already gotten permission for you to pass through the neighboring pack’s territory. You can take the northern route back to your lands.”
Killian raised an eyebrow. “How thoughtful of you to arrange my travel plans.”
“I want you gone before I get back,” I said firmly. “No delays, no excuses.”
I turned to Xander. “Get the travel papers for Alpha Killian. Make sure he has everything he needs to leave our territory safely.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Xander replied.
“And make sure he actually leaves,” I added. “I want confirmation that he’s crossed our borders.”
Xander nodded. “I’ll handle it personally.”
I looked back at Killian one more time. “This is your chance to leave with dignity. Don’t make me

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Killian replied, though his tone suggested he was anything but intimidated.
I headed toward the door, but Killian’s voice stopped me.
“Darius.”
I turned back to face him.
“You might want to ask yourself why you’re so afraid of letting Clara choose,” he said, “Because a
confident man wouldn’t need to eliminate the competition.”
His words followed me as I left the room, and I hated how much they bothered me.
Xander fell into step beside me as we walked toward my office. “What was that about?” he asked
quietly.
“Nothing I can’t handle,” I replied, though I wasn’t entirely sure that was true.
“The Eastern Pack envoy seemed pretty agitated,” Xander continued. “They’re claiming our road
crew damaged some of their property.”
“How much damage are we talking about?”
