I had betrayed Darius. After everything he had done for me, after he had saved my life and given me a home, I had run straight into the arms of another man.

The memory of slapping him in his office came flooding back. The shock on his face, the hurt in his eyes before the anger took over.

And then I remembered what I had witnessed in the basement. The way Darius had tortured Jaden’s spy, the cold calculation in his voice as he ordered the man’s tongue to be cut out and reattached.

My blood ran cold as I realized what I had done. If Darius found out about this, what would he do to me?
