Slowly Prepared To Leave Novel 109
CHAPTER 96–T
Clara’s POV
Killian finished his phone call and set the device back on the nightstand. He turned to me with that same smug smile I was getting tired of seeing.
“Where were we?” he asked, reaching for me
I pulled back, clutching the sheet tighter around myself.
“We weren’t anywhere,” I said firmly. “And this isn’t happening again.”
Killian’s smile faded slightly. “What do you mean?”
“I mean this was a mistake,” I said, already looking around for my clothes. “This can’t happen again.”
“Why not?”
I didn’t answer immediately. How could I explain the images that were flashing through my mind? The memory of Darius’s shocked face when I slapped him. The hurt in his eyes before the anger took over.
And worse, the memory of what I had seen in the basement. The way Darius had tortured Jaden’s spy with such cold calculation.
What would he do to me if he found out about this?
Would he cut off my arm and have it put back together, just like he had done with the spy’s tongue? Would he break me and fix me to be more broken than I already was?
Or would he stick a pole through me and use me as an example for other betrayers?
The thought made my blood run cold.
“Clara?” Killian said, noticing my silence.
“I have to go,” I said, scrambling to find my clothes.

“That’s it?” Killian repeated, his voice getting harder.
“That’s it,” I confirmed, not looking at him as I put on my shirt.
I headed for the door, but Killian’s voice stopped me.
“This isn’t over, Clara.”
I turned back to look at him. “Yes, it is.”

“No, I won’t.”
Killian’s smile returned, cold and knowing: “We’ll see.”
I left the cabin without another word, practically running back toward Darius’s territory.

The whole way back, my mind was racing with panic. What had I done? How could I have been so stupid?
I had betrayed the man who saved my life, who gave me everything when I had nothing. And for what? A moment of defiance? A chance to prove I could make my own choices?
It felt hollow now. Empty and stupid and dangerous.
When I reached the border of Darius’s territory, I slowed down and tried to calm myself. I needed to act normal when I got back. I couldn’t let anyone see that something was wrong.
I made my way through the packhouse quietly, avoiding the main areas where people might see me. The last thing I needed was someone asking where I had been.
But as I climbed the stairs to my room, I realized that no one seemed to have noticed I was gone. The pack was still busy with cleanup work and normal daily activities.
Thankfully, no one knew I had gone out because Darius had decided to give me space after our fight.
I reached my room and closed the door behind me, leaning against it and trying to catch my breath.
I was safe. No one had seen me leave or return.
But I could still smell Killian on my skin. His scent was all over me, and if Darius picked up on it, I would be
