CHAPTER 107
Clara’s POV
We were escorted through the opulent lobby by hotel staff who clearly knew exactly who Darius was. They bowed and scraped, calling him “Alpha” with deep respect and what looked like a healthy dose of fear.
Our room was on the top floor, a spacious suite with a stunning view of the surrounding mountains. The staff deposited our luggage and left us alone with promises that anything we needed would be provided immediately.
The silence that followed their departure was deafening.
I watched Darius walk to the window, his hands clasped behind his back as he surveyed the view. The gentle, charming man from the car ride was gone. In his place stood the warlord, calculating and cold.
“Darius?” I said quietly. “Are you still upset with me?”
He turned slowly, and the look he gave me made my blood freeze. It was the same look from his office yesterday. Cold. Calculating. Dangerous.
The warning was clear without him saying a single word. Shut up. Play your part. Don’t test
I didn’t need a memo to understand. I clamped my mouth shut and nodded slightly, letting him know I got the message.
He stared at me for a long moment, as if making sure I truly understood. Then, without a word, he grabbed his jacket from the bed.
“I have business to attend to,” he said, his voice back to that cold, formal tone. “Stay in the room. Don’t wander around. Don’t talk to anyone unless I’m with you.”
And then he was gone, leaving me alone in the massive suite.
I finally felt like I could breathe freely. Being near Darius lately felt like walking on shards of glass, never knowing when I might step wrong and cut myself to pieces.
I spent the afternoon trying to calm my nerves, taking a long bath and attempting to read a book I’d brought. But my mind kept wandering to tomorrow’s events and what role I was expected to play.
Hours passed. The sun began to set, painting the mountains in shades of gold and pink. Darius still hadn’t returned, and I found myself wondering what kind of “business” kept him

away so long.

I was just starting to get hungry when the door opened and Darius walked in, looking as composed as ever.
“Tomorrow’s reception starts at seven,” he said without preamble. “I’ve arranged for a makeup artist and hair stylist to come prepare you. They’ll be here at three.”
I nodded. “Okay.”
“This is important, Clara. These people will be watching every move we make, analyzing every interaction. You need to look perfect.”
“I understand.”
He studied me for a moment, as if trying to decide whether he believed me. Then he moved
to the bathroom without another word.
The next morning arrived with a flurry of activity. The makeup artist and hair stylist showed up promptly at three, their arms full of supplies and equipment.
They were both middle–aged women with kind faces and gentle hands. Within minutes, they had transformed the suite’s sitting area into a makeshift salon.
“Oh my goodness,” the makeup artist gushed as she studied my face. “You have absolutely stunning bone structure. And those eyes! Alpha Darius is a very lucky man.”
The hair stylist nodded enthusiastically. “Such beautiful hair too. Thick and healthy. You must take wonderful care of yourself.”
“Thank you,” I said softly, not used to such praise.
“How long have you been together?” the makeup artist asked as she began applying primer to my face.
“Eight months,” I replied, remembering the story Darius had told the driver.
“Oh, still in the honeymoon phase!” she laughed. “No wonder you both look so happy. I can always tell when couples are truly in love. There’s this glow about them.”
The hair stylist started combing through my hair with gentle strokes. “And Alpha Darius seems absolutely smitten with you. When we arrived, the way he looked at you… like you hung the moon and stars.”
“He’s very protective,” I said carefully.
“As he should be! You’re clearly precious to him.” The makeup artist smiled warmly. “I’ve done makeup for a lot of alpha companions over the years, but I have to say, you and Alpha Darius

make such a lovely couple.”

“He clearly adores you,” the hair stylist added, sectioning off pieces of my hair with practiced efficiency. “The way he watches over you, makes sure you’re comfortable. That’s true love right there.”
I wanted to laugh at the irony. If only they knew that this “true love” was actually a binding agreement that could cost me my life if I stepped out of line.
“You’re so lucky,” the makeup artist continued, now working on my eyebrows. “Alpha Darius has such a reputation for being… well, let’s just say he’s known for being very selective about companions. The fact that he chose you speaks volumes.”
“Selective how?” I found myself asking.
The hair stylist and makeup artist exchanged glances.
“Well,” the hair stylist said carefully, “he’s known for being quite… intense. Very focused on his pack, his business. Most people assumed he’d never settle down with anyone.”
“But when the right person comes along,” the makeup artist added with a romantic sigh, “even the most confirmed bachelors fall hard. And it’s obvious he’s fallen hard for you.”
