CHAPTER 167
Ronan’s POV
The phone went dead in my hand, but Clara’s words still echoed in my mind. Partners. Not allies, not
subordinates. Partners.
I felt warmth spread through my chest just at the thought of that. Although we had once come to an
agreement that I was going to help her with this mission. But hearing her say it this way felt… amazing.
I set the phone down and walked to the window of my office. The view.overlooked the training grounds
where my warriors were sparring in the late afternoon sun. They moved with precision, deadly grace that
had taken years to perfect. But right now, all I could think about was the conversation I’d just finished.
Clara knew about Elena. She’d dug through sealed records, connected dots that my father had tried to
erase, and pieced together the truth that had driven me for ten years. The truth about what Jaden really
was.
My hands clenched into fists at my sides. That bastard had the nerve to kidnap her. To chain her up like
some common rogue when she was Clara fucking Ashburn. And it gladdened my heart to know that she
had burned down half his territory and walked out alive.
If only I had been there to witness it all myself.
I should have killed him years ago. Maybe even challenged him the moment I turned eighteen and became Alpha. But the other pack leaders had believed his story about Elena being an accident had called me grief–stricken, emotional, told me to move on for the good of all packs.
Well, they could all go to hell now.
I turned away from the window and grabbed my phone again. If Clara wanted a coalition, she’d get one. I’d show her exactly what the Hargrove pack was capable of.
But first, I needed to make some calls.
Killian answered on the second ring. “Ronan. This is unexpected.”
“We need to talk,” I said, pacing behind my desk. “It’s about Jaden.”
“What’s that piece of shit done now?” Killian’s voice sharpened immediately. There was no love lost
between him and Jaden either. They’d had their own territorial disputes over the years.
“He kidnapped Clara Ashburn,” I said, letting the words hang in the air.
The silence on the other end stretched long enough that I wondered if the call had dropped
“He what?” Killian’s voice was deadly quiet.
“You heard me,” I said, “Grabbed her right out of Darius’s territory Chained her up, tried to make some deal to get her to join his freaking pack as his Luna. The pup seemed to think he has grown some balls.”

“That fucking lunatic,” Killian snarled. “Does he have a death wish? Kidnapping another Alpha’s mate days before their wedding?”
I could hear movement on his end, probably pacing just like I was. Killian wasn’t the type to sit still when he was angry, and kidnapping was the kind of violation that would set any Alpha’s blood boiling.
“Clara escaped,” I continued. “Burned down his food stores, crops, vehicles, even damaged his packhouse. But that’s not the point.”/
“No,” Killian agreed, his voice hard. “The point is he crossed a line that should get him killed.”
“Exactly.” I stopped pacing and leaned against my desk. “Clara wants to build a coalition. Take him down
properly, with multiple packs working together.”
“Smart woman,” Killian said. “Jaden’s been building his own alliances. He won’t go down easy.”
I was about to respond when another voice cut through the line.
“Did someone say they wanted to kill Jaden Silverstein?”
I froze. That wasn’t Killian’s voice.
“Lucien?” Killian said, sounding just as confused as I felt.
“Sorry,” Lucien’s voice came through clearly now. “I was on a call with Killian when you rang. Looks like it
connected us all together.”
Great. A three–way call with Lucien Calhoun. The man was powerful, no question, but he was also
unpredictable as hell.
“Well, this is convenient,” I said, deciding to roll with it. “Saves me from making another call.”
“Ronan was just telling me that Jaden kidnapped Clara,” Killian said.
The line went dead quiet for a moment. Then Lucien exploded.
“That worthless piece of shit did WHAT?” His voice was a roar of pure rage. “I’ll rip him to shreds. I’ll crush him so badly his family won’t be able to find enough pieces for a burial.”
ľ
Even through the phone, the fury in Lucien’s voice was terrifying. I’d seen him angry before, but this was something else entirely. This was the kind of rage that started wars.
“Lucien,” I said carefully. “What’s your interest in this?”
“Clara has Red Moon bloodline,” he said, his voice tight with barely controlled anger. “This concerns me
I could hear the possessiveness he was trying to hide, but I wasn’t about to call him out on it. Not when ! had my own reasons for wanting to be involved in this war.
Killian cleared his throat. “Wait a minute. How the hell did Jaden even manage to capture her?”
The question hit me like a punch to the gut. I’d been so focused on my rage that I hadn’t really thought about the logistics.

“What do you mean?” I asked.
Come on, Ronan,” Killian continued. “We’ve all heard the stories about what Clara did to Jaden’s pack when she escaped the first time. And you told me yourself she nearly took you down in a fair fight.”
“She did take me down,” I admitted grudgingly. “If she hadn’t been drugged, I would have lost.”
