CHAPTER 226

CHAPTER 226

Clara’s POV

The question hit harder than any accusation. Because I’d asked myself the same thing a thousand times. Why wasn’t Darius enough? Why did my wolf call to four different males? Why did the goddess always have to do this to me?

“You’re a whore.”

The word echoed through the hall like a gunshot. Pack members gasped. Killian terised beside the wall.

“You’re a whore who used her position as Luna turned Alpha, your warrior skills and influence to seduce other women’s mates,” Mira continued, her calm demeanor completely shattered now. “You’re no better than your sister. At least she had the decency to go after someone who wasn’t

mated yet.”

That comparison to Liana made my blood boil, but I forced myself to stay seated. To stay in

control.

“That’s enough,” I said firmly.

h?” Mira laughed, high and broken. “I haven’t even started. Do you know what it’s like? To erything to someone? To mold yourself into the perfect partner, the perfect Luna, only to ut it was never going to be enough because his heart belonged to someone else?”

  1. Yes, I knew exactly what that felt like. But I couldn’t say that. Couldn’t make this about me.

“I woke up every morning trying to be better for him,” Mira said, tears streaming freely now. “I smiled through the distance. Made excuses for the coldness. Told myself it was just stress, just pack business, just temporary.”

She moved closer to the Alpha’s chair. Too close. “But it wasn’t temporary. It was you. This whole

time, it was you.”

Her hand shot out. Fast. She grabbed the front of my shirt and yanked me forward.

“Mira, don’t-” her father called.

But she wasn’t listening anymore. “You took everything from me. My mate, my future, my dignity. And for what? For fun? For power? To prove you could?”

I could have broken her grip easily. Could have pushed her away, used my training to defend myself. But something stopped me. Maybe guilt. Maybe understanding. Maybe the knowledge

that she needed this, needed to rage at someone for the pain she was feeling

“You’re nothing but a homewrecking whore,” Mira spat, her face inches from mine. “A pathetic excuse for an Alpha who can’t even keep her own mate satisfied so she has to steal everyone else’s.”

“Let her go,” Killian said from somewhere behind us. His voice was dangerous.

But I shook my head slightly. Not yet.

“Do you know what the worst part is?” Mira’s voice dropped to a whisper. “I can’t even hate him for it. Because looking at you now, seeing you sit there in your Alpha chair like you own the world, I understand why he chose you over me.”

She shoved me back into the chair. Hard. “You’re everything I’m not. Strong. Powerful. Unafraid to

take what you want. Why would he settle for someone calm and boring when he could have you?”

“You’re not boring,” I said quietly.

“Don’t.” She stepped back, wiping her face roughly. “Don’t you dare try to comfort me. You don’t get to do that. You don’t get to take everything and then offer me pity.”

The doors burst open again. Ronan stood there, breathing hard like he’d run the whole way from the border. His eyes went straight to Mira, then to me, then back to Mira.

“Don’t,” Mira said, holding up a hand. “Don’t say anything. I don’t want to hear it.”

et me explain-”

She turned on him, all that rage finding a new target. “Explain how you’ve been love me while sneaking off to see her? Explain how every time you touched me, you ing of someone else?”

ot like that-”

hen what is it like, Ronan?” Her voice broke again. “Tell me. Make me understand how the man I’ve loved for years could do this to me.”

Ronan looked at her, and I saw something flicker across his face. Guilt. Pain. But also something else. Something that looked almost like relief.

“I’m sorry,” he said finally.

“Sorry?” Mira laughed. “That’s it? That’s all you have to say?”

“I never meant to hurt you-”

“But you did!” She screamed it this time, losing all composure. “You hurt me in the worst way

possible. You made me believe in something that was never real. You wasted years of my life.

Her father moved forward, placing a hand on her shoulder. “Mira. We should go

“No.” She shook him off. “Not yet.”

She turned back to me, and her eyes were cold now. All the fire had burned out, leaving only ice

“This isn’t over. I won’t let you destroy what I’ve built without consequences.

“Mira,” I started.

“Save it.” She looked at her brothers, her father, her warriors. “We’re leaving. But we’ll be back.”

“That sounds like a threat,” Killian said from his position by the wall.

“It’s a promise,” one of her brothers said. “No one disrespects our sister like this and gets away
