“Yes, Luna.” He hurried off to obey.

I turned to address the pack one more time. “I know this is unconventional. I know some of you don’t

approve. But I’m still your Luna. I’m still going to protect this pack with everything I have. These four

Aiphas will help me do that. We’re stronger together than apart. I’m asking you to trust that. To trust me.”

More nods this time. Fewer skeptical faces. Not complete acceptance, but progress.

“Now everyone go. We have a lot of work to do before tomorrow.”

The pack dispersed slowly, still whispering among themselves but at least moving. When the room finally cleared except for us and a few close advisors, I let myself sag slightly.

Darius caught me immediately. “You need food. Real food. And rest.”

“We all do,” Lucien agreed. “We can’t fight tomorrow if we collapse from exhaustion first.”

“Food first,” I decided. “Then we plan. Then maybe a few hours of sleep before the challenge.”

Killian groaned but didn’t argue.

We made our way to the dining hall. Pack members brought food, lots of it, and we ate in relative silence.

My throat protested at first, still raw, but the food helped. I watched them eat too, all of them showing

signs of the last three days. Exhaustion in every movement. But also something else. An ease between

them that hadn’t existed before.

They’d started as rivals, four Alphas competing for one mate. Now they moved like a unit. Passing food without asking, knowing what each other needed. Small gestures that showed how much had changed.

After we ate, we gathered in the war room with Derek and the senior warriors. Maps spread across the table, showing the neutral territory where challenges were traditionally held.

“Hendrik is old school,” Derek explained. “Traditional to his core. He sees your multiple mate bonds as a

disgrace to pack law. He wants to make an example of you.”

“What do we know about his warriors?” Lucien asked, already studying the maps.

“Four of his best. Experienced fighters, all of them. They’ve been training together for years. They fight as a

unit.”

“So do we now,” Ronan said quietly.

“You’ve been together three days,” Derek pointed out. “They’ve been a team for years.”

“The mate bonds give us an advantage,” I said. “We can communicate through them. Coordinate in ways normal fighters can’t.”

Darius nodded slowly. “She’s right. During the heat, we learned to read each other. Anticipate movements.

If we can translate that to combat…”

No one argued.

We ended up back in one of the guest rooms since the Alpha’s quarters were destroyed. The bed wasn’t as big, but we made it work. I settled in the middle with them arranged around me, protective even in sleep.

“Thank you,” I whispered into the darkness. “For standing with me! For choosing this even though it’s going

to be hard.”
