Rejected by Her Mate Claimed by Four Alphas novel Chapter 64

Clara’s POV

The tension between us was intense. I could almost see him calculating how much to reveal.

Find the rogue wolf first,” he said coldly. Prove your value one more time. Then we’ll talk.

I scoffed. Prove my value? Are you serious Darius?

Although I had wanted to put this aside and get to the work he had assigned me, but hearing him ask me to prove my value againit pissed me off.

I stalked towards him, poking my fingers on his chest. How many times have I proven myself to you?

The look of realization flashed in his eyes. Clara-He started.

No need lying,” I shook my head. “When do I leave?

I stepped back, and I escaped his grip even when he tried to grab me.

When will I be leaving and do I get a team?

Xander will be making the arrangements and inform you when you’re to leave and the details you need to know about the mission tomorrow.

I nodded, already mentally preparing for what might come.

Clara, wait,Darius called as I turned to leave.

I paused but didn’t look back at him.

It’s not about proving your value to me,” he said, his voice softer now. It’s about what you’ll discover out

there.

What’s that supposed to mean?I asked, still not turning.

Some questions answer themselves when you look in the right places.

I shook my head. More riddles. More games. Whatever you say, Alpha.

I walked out of the training room without looking back. My body ached in all the right places from our encounter, but I was boiling with anger. I didn’t understand why there was always another test or another hoop to jump through.

The corridors of the pack house were quiet. Most wolves would be at dinner by now, but I had no appetite. I headed straight for my quarters, barely acknowledging the few pack members I passed.

When I reached my room, I locked the door behind me and leaned against it, finally letting out the breath I’d been holding.

I caught sight of my reflection in the mirror.

My hair was wild from Darius’s hands, lips swollen from his kisses, and there were marks on my neck and collarbones that would fade by morning, thanks to my healing. I looked thoroughly fucked and completely

furious.

I laughed, the sound hollow in the quiet room.

Always proving myself,I said to my reflection. Always fighting for a place.”

With Jaden, I’d spent years pretending to be weaker than I was, hiding my strength, and submitting when every instinct screamed at me to fight. I’d proven myself the perfect submissive mate, the ideal Luna who would never challenge his authority.

And now with Darius? I had to be strong, dangerous, and special. Now he expects me to track a rogue his best scouts couldn’t find.

When will I stop having to prove myself?

Isn’t that how all men are?my wolf whispered in my mind. They only value what serves them.

She wasn’t wrong.

Neither Jaden nor Darius saw me as a person. Just what I could do for them.

I pushed away from the door, stripped off my clothes, and headed for the shower. The hot water washed away the evidence of my time with Darius, but not the memory, lingering heat, or strange tension that had passed between us at the end.

You’re dangerous, Clara,Darius had said.

Yes, I was. More than he knew.

I stepped out of the shower, wrapped a towel around myself, and returned to the mirror.

With the marks of Darius’s passion washed away, I looked more like myself again. Just Clara. Not Jaden’s rejected mate or Darius’s dangerous weapon. Just me.

But who was that, really?

We know who we are,my wolf said firmly. We are survivors. We are hunters. And we have a mission.

Yes. A mission.

The real reason I agreed to be here, in this pack, playing these games.

Jaden needed to pay for the betrayal. A man who’d betray you and still want you dead deserved a punishment worse than that, and as long as he roams the earthI must have my pound of flesh.

I dropped the towel and pulled on clean clothes.

Suddenly, there was a knock at my door.

Enter,” I called, expecting Darius or even Xander to walk in with details about tomorrow’s briefing.

But it was Vex who slipped inside.

Beta Xander sent me,she said without preamble. “He’ll brief you fully tomorrow, but wanted you to see this tonight.” She handed me a small folder. Basic information on the rogue we need you to track.”

I nodded. Details on the rogue?

Male. Youngish. Fast. Been spotted three times near the eastern border, always at dawn or dusk. Killed one of our deer but didn’t eat much of it. Left strange markings on trees; but not normal territorial markers. She handed me a small folder. It’s all in here.

I took it, flipping through it quickly. There was a map of sightings, sketches of the tree markings, and paw prints that seemed oddly distorted.

Interesting,I murmured. Not your typical lone wolf behavior.

That’s why Alpha wants you on it,Vex said, watching me closely. The best trackers couldn’t even pick up

a consistent scent trail.

I looked up, meeting her gaze. You don’t think I’ll find anything either.

She shrugged. I think there’s something off about this whole situation.
