Clara’s POV
“I don’t know,” Vex admitted. “But I’ve served Alpha Darius long enough to recognize when he’s playing a deeper game.” She studied me carefully. “And you’re central to it.”
“Why tell me this?” I asked. “Your loyalty is to your Alpha.”
“I respect strength,” Vex said simply. “You took me down fairly in that ring.”
“Watch yourself on this mission,” she continued. “The eastern forests have ways of revealing truths people aren’t ready to face.”
With that warning, she turned to leave.
“Vex,” I called after her. “Does Darius send many people to that border alone?”
She paused at the door. “No. Never alone. Not there.”
Then she was gone, leaving me with questions.
I sat on my bed, opening the folder. The map showed sightings concentrated along our eastern border,
closest to Shadowcrest lands.
Could this be Darius’s scheme? A way to position me closer to Jaden’s territory?
I set the folder aside, my mind on what Vex had said.
What game was Darius playing? And could I use it for my own plan?
If I was going to be near Jaden’s territory, I could gather information. I could even plant seeds for my next
move.
I smiled coldly.
The pieces were moving better than I could have planned. Darius might think he was using me for his scheme, but I was happy to use him right back.
I quickly went straight to bed. Tomorrow, I’ll take my time to figure out my next plan of action.
The next day, I woke up before my alarm. I rolled out of bed, muscles protesting slightly from yesterday’s
activities with Darius.
I pulled on my workout clothes and grabbed a water bottle. The pack house was quiet, and most wolves were still sleeping, which was perfect as I preferred training alone.
Outside, the air was crisp and cool. Dew covered the grass, and mist hung low over the training grounds.
I started with stretches, working out the stiffness in my shoulders and back.

CHAPTER 60 1
Then I ran.

My feet hit the path steadily, carrying me through the pack territory in wide loops. The physical activity helped clear my mind, pushing away the confusion from last night: Vex’s warnings, Darius’s riddles, and the mysterious rogue wolf that might not be what it seemed.
I ran for an hour, pushing my pace until sweat dripped down my face and my lungs burned. Only then did I return to the training area for combat drills.
I worked the heavy bag first, throwing combinations that would have dropped most opponents: left hook, right cross, uppercut. Each strike was precise and powerful. The bag swayed under the impact, the chain
creaking with each hit.
After twenty minutes, I moved to the weapons rack. I selected three throwing knives, checking their balance before stepping back to the target wall. One after another, I sent them flying. Each blade hit its
mark in the center ring.
“Not bad,” a voice called from behind me.
I turned to see Jake, one of the younger pack warriors. He was grinning, clearly trying to be friendly. Or
maybe trying to impress me. Hard to tell with men sometimes.
“Thanks,” I said, walking over to retrieve my knives.
“I’ve been watching you train,” he continued, falling into step beside me. “You’re pretty good for someone
who’s only been here a few months.”
I pulled the first knife from the target. “Practice makes perfect.”
“Maybe we could spar sometime,” he suggested. “I could show you some moves.”
