Alpha Darius’s POV

Killian’s eyes widened at my sudden appearance, but instead of backing down like any sensible person

would, he tried to argue.

Darius, you don’t understand,Killian said, struggling to sit up straighter in the hospital bed. There’s something you need to know about Clara and me.

His words only made my fury burn hotter. I was already so pissed off that my wolf had taken complete control, and hearing Killian talk about some connection with Clara pushed me over the edge.

I don’t want to hear anything you have to say,I snarled, taking another step closer to his bed.

Clara immediately jumped up from her chair, positioning herself between Killian and me.

Darius, stop,” she said firmly. Killian just woke up. He’s still injured. You can’t just burst in here and

threaten him.

Her words were like gasoline on a fire. The fact that she was defending him, protecting him from me, made my wolf go completely insane.

You want to defend him?I asked, my voice dangerously low. After everything I’ve done for you?

This isn’t about what you’ve done for me,Clara replied, her own voice rising. This is about basic human decency. He saved my life.”

And I saved yours first,I shot back.

But Clara wasn’t backing down. That doesn’t give you the right to attack someone who’s lying in a hospital

bed.

The dark side of me that I was known for throughout all the territories wasn’t having any of this argument. Clara defending another Alpha, especially one who had been touching her so intimately just moments before, was unacceptable.

Clara before she could stop me and grabbed Killian by the throat. His injuries made him

ack effectively, and I used that to my advantage.

mething very clear,” I said, applying just enough pressure to his windpipe to get his

ou need to remember what pack you’re in right now.

mands came up to my wrist, trying to loosen my grip, but he didn’t have the strength to break free.

re in my territory, under my roof, breathing my air,I continued, tightening my grip slightly. And you put your hands on what belongs to me.

Darius, let him go!Clara shouted, grabbing at my arm.

I ignored her completely, focusing all my attention on Killian’s face. I wanted to see fear there, submission,

acknowlcdument that he had overstepped his bounds.

You have exactly fortyeight hours to recover and get out of my pack,” I said through gritted teeth. If

you’re still here after that we’re going to have a much more serious conversation.

Killian’s face was starting to turn red from the lack of air, but his eyes remained defiant. Even choking, he was trying to stare me down.

Do you understand me?I demanded, giving his throat one final squeeze before releasing him.

Killian collapsed back against his pillows, gasping for air. Clara immediately moved to check on him,

which only made my anger worse.

Are you alright?she asked Killian, her voice filled with concern.

I’m fine,Killian managed to say, though his voice was hoarse from being choked.

I was preparing to grab him again when Xander burst into the room. He must have heard the commotion

from down the hallway.

Alpha,Xander said urgently, taking in the scene. What’s happening here?

I’m having a conversation with our guest,I replied, not taking my eyes off Killian.

Xander moved quickly to my side and grabbed my arm, pulling me away from the hospital bed.

We need to talk,he said firmly. Now.

He physically pulled me toward the corner of the room, positioning himself between me and Killian. What the hell are you doing?Xander hissed, keeping his voice low. You need to remember that Killian is also an Alpha. He got wounded in our territory while helping our pack member.

I don’t care what he is,I snarled.

You should care,Xander insisted. We cannot afford a war right now. If you attack an injured Alpha who was hurt protecting one of our people, it could destroy our alliances with every other pack.

Xander’s words cut through some of my rage, forcing me to think about the political implications of what I was doing. He was right about the potential consequences, but my wolf was still in control and didn’t care about politics.

He was touching her,I said, my voice still rough with anger.

So what?Xander replied. That doesn’t justify attempted murder.

I was about to argue when Clara spoke up from behind us.

You’re being incredibly insensitive, she said, her voice sharp with disapproval. Killian almost died protecting me, and this is how you treat him?

Her words hit me like a physical blow. Insensitive? After everything I had done for her, everything I had given her, she was calling me insensitive for protecting what was mine?

That notnavent completely blew my fuse.

1 spun around and stalked toward Clara, ignoring Xander’s attempts to stop me. Before she could react, I grabbed her chin firmly in my hand.

Insensitive?I asked through gritted teeth, my face inches from hers.
