CHAPTER 85
Clara’s POV
Watching Darius go from possessive lover to wild beast in bed to insensitive friend in the span of an hour was like watching three different people occupy the same body.
The way he had claimed me in his room, completely dominating every inch of me, had left my body still humming with satisfaction. But then seeing him coldly dismiss Alpha Killian’s condition, watching him choke his own people for trying to help, showed me a side of him that was both terrifying and strangely attractive.
I couldn’t help but admit that I was starting to like him more. All of him. The gentle protector, the
passionate lover, and even the ruthless Alpha who would do anything to keep what he felt was his
My wolf couldn’t agree more. She practically purred with satisfaction every time Darius displayed
his dominance, whether it was over me or over anyone who dared to challenge his authority.
From where I stood in the hallway, I watched as the hospital staff immediately started rushing to make preparations for Killian’s transport. Dr. Hayes was coordinating with Xander about medical equipment that would need to travel with Killian, while other pack members began organizing
vehicles and security details.
The efficiency was impressive, even if the circumstances were troubling. When Darius gave an order, people moved without question.
I could see the conflict on some faces. Dr. Hayes especially looked unhappy about moving a critically ill patient, but no one was willing to directly challenge Darius’s decision a second time.
After giving a few more instructions to Xander, Darius prepared to leave the hospital wing. But before walking out, he changed direction and headed straight toward me.
I felt my pulse quicken as he approached. Even after everything we had just shared, my body still reacted to his presence like I was prey being stalked by a predator.
He stopped directly in front of me, close enough that I could smell his scent and feel the heat radiating from his body.
Without warning, he leaned in close to my ear. His breath was warm against my skin as he whispered, “I haven’t forgotten my promise.”
The words sent an immediate shiver down my spine.
“Make sure you don’t have anything important to do,” he continued, his voice low and rough with
promise. “Because you won’t be able to use those legs.”

CHAPTER 85
Heat flooded through my body at his words. I felt my p***y grow wet instantly, my body betraying how much the threat affected me.
He pulled back slightly to look at my face, and I knew he could see exactly what his words had done to me. The satisfied smirk that crossed his lips told me he was pleased with my reaction.
Then, without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving me standing there with my heart
racing and my body aching for him to make good on his promise.
I took several deep breaths, trying to collect myself. The hospital hallway was not the place to be
having these kinds of reactions, especially with pack members bustling around making arrangements for Killian’s departure.
I watched Darius disappear around the corner, then forced myself to focus on more practical
matters. There were things I needed to take care of, and I couldn’t spend the entire day thinking about what Darius planned to do to me later.
I made my way back to the main areas of the packhouse and spent the rest of the day helping with various tasks. There was still storm cleanup to coordinate, damaged areas to assess, and normal
pack business to handle.
The work was a welcome distraction from the constant awareness of Darius’s promise echoing in my mind. Every time I thought about it, my body would respond with a flush of heat that had nothing to do with physical exertion.
As evening approached, I found myself glancing around for Darius more and more frequently. He was busy with Alpha duties, handling the logistics of Killian’s transport and dealing with the political implications of sending an injured ally away during a medical crisis.
Part of me wondered if he would even have time to make good on his threat, given how much he had to handle. But every time I caught sight of him across the packhouse, the look in his eyes reminded me that he definitely hadn’t forgotten.
Dinner came and went with Darius still occupied with arrangements. I ate with some of the other pack members, trying to focus on normal conversation while my mind kept wandering to less
innocent topics.
By the time night fell, I was exhausted from both the physical work and the constant state of anticipation. I decided to head to bed early, figuring that if Darius was going to follow through on his promise, I should at least be rested for whatever he had planned.
I went through my normal evening routine, showering and changing into comfortable sleepwear.
As I settled into bed, I tried to read for a while, but I couldn’t concentrate on the words.

Every sound in the hallway made me look up, wondering if it was Darius coming to make good his threat. But as the hours passed and he didn’t appear, I began to think that maybe pack business had kept him too busy.
Eventually, exhaustion won over anticipation. I set my book aside, turned off the lights, and settled under my blankets to sleep.
I must have been more tired than I realized, because I fell asleep quickly despite my earlier
restlessness.
I was sleeping deeply when I first felt light, feathery touches on my skin.
The sensation was so gentle that at first I thought it was just my blanket shifting against me as I
moved in my sleep. Without fully waking, I pulled the covers up higher and continued sleeping.
After a while, I felt the light touches again. This time they seemed more deliberate, trailing along
my arm and shoulder in a way that made me stir slightly.
Still half–asleep, I threw the blanket off completely, thinking it was just getting tangled around me
and causing the strange sensations.
But the touches continued.
