Carter nodded, realizing exactly who this man was.
"I'm Emma's close friend and former teammate, Travis Reynolds."
Carter was mildly surprised. Could this be the Reynolds family he knew of?
"Where is she?"
Travis pulled off his mask, revealing an incredibly pale complexion. He tilted his head slightly, his eyes flashing with a ruthless edge beneath his hat and messy hair.
"I've already sent people to search," Carter replied calmly.
"Heh."
Travis ripped off his hat in frustration, aggressively running a hand through his hair.
"Then what the hell are you all standing around for? Go find her!"
He roared at the bodyguards flanking the room. These men were notorious mercenaries overseas, yet they stood before him as meekly as lambs.
As the guards scrambled out, Jeff hurried in.
"Boss, I got an update. I identified the car she got into. Based on the security footage, it's heading straight for the summit camp."
Carter nodded and headed for the door, but Jeff chased after him. "I'm trying to contact the camp manager. The mountain road was sealed off days ago to serve as a track for the racers. No cars are allowed up there except the competitors."
"Keep trying. In the meantime, get the cars ready. If they won't open the gates, we ram through them."
Travis raised an eyebrow at that, then stepped forward.
"You go search elsewhere. I can get into the summit camp."
He shoved his hat back on and pulled his mask into place.
"I'm going with you," Carter insisted immediately.
Travis didn't argue. By now, the sun had fully set.
The temperature up in these mountains was far colder than back in the city.
Wearing only a light vest and skirt, Emma couldn't stop shivering in the biting wind.
As Travis and Carter drove up the mountain, they crossed paths with Tristan, who was attempting another run up the course.
Tristan tried to shake them off, but it quickly became apparent that the other driver was a professional.
A smirk tugged at the corner of Travis's mouth, revealing a sharp canine tooth beneath his mask.
Both cars accelerated, turning it into a sudden street race. Carter, however, paid zero attention to the competition.
The moment they entered the mountains, he noticed his phone had lost its signal. That meant Emma was trapped up here with no way to call for help.
If they had dumped her in the untouched wilderness...
