Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 158

Emma gave Martha some time off and even handed her a sum of money.

She asked VP Levi to investigate the connection between Martha and the deceased Kyle Yardley. Before VP Levi could call back, Julian phoned her first.

"Let's put aside whether you'll keep this nanny after all this. Even if you do, you can't be without someone by your side right now. I've already sent someone over."

Emma forced a smile and cheerfully agreed.

After hanging up, she let out a long sigh.

"It's not just about avoiding slip-ups during meals anymore."

Carter kept his face completely blank, though he couldn't help but feel overjoyed inside.

"Don't worry, we won't let them notice a thing." Carter checked the time and added, "I'm not going back to the office this afternoon. I'll stay with you."

Seeing the nice weather, Carter spent the afternoon wheeling Emma around the estate grounds for a walk.

Just as Emma was comfortably squinting in the warm sunlight, Logan showed up.

"Emma, I'd like to talk to you."

Logan looked at Carter with hesitation. Some things could only be said to Emma in private.

"Just say whatever you have to say. I'm not very mobile right now, so I don't feel safe without someone by my side."

Emma was entirely upfront about her distrust, leaving Logan feeling a pang of sorrow.

"Do you really trust me that little?"

Emma raised an eyebrow. Of course she didn't trust anyone from the Lockwood family.

Carter suppressed a smirk. "I wonder what Mr. Lockwood has to say to my wife that he so desperately hopes her husband won't hear?"

Logan froze, pursing his lips with a sigh.

Right then, Gillian walked over.

"Logan, Emma doesn't appreciate your kindness. If she has no shame and insists we say it out in the open, then let's just lay it all out."
