Carter's face darkened, his gaze turning terrifyingly bleak.

Percy, however, acted entirely unhinged, looking as though he was willing to risk it all.

"Have you caused enough of a scene?!"

Douglas clutched his chest in blinding fury, gasping as if he couldn't draw in air.

"Dad!"

"Grandfather!"

Everyone rushed over in a frantic panic. Emma gritted her teeth and stood up on her one good leg.

"Help me over there. Jeff, grab my bag."

While Percy was still frozen in shock, Carter reacted instantly, supporting her weight.

"Can you stop adding to the chaos?" Gillian screamed furiously from the side.

Given Emma's battered condition, wasn't hobbling over just going to make things worse?

Emma shoved her out of the way. "Move."

She hurried to Douglas's side, unpinned the brooch from her clothes, and used the sharp tip to forcefully prick the old man's fingertips.

"Emma, what the hell are you doing?! Instead of letting people call a doctor, you're causing a scene?"

Charles panicked. If this delayed medical treatment, the alliance between the Harringtons and Lockwoods would be permanently destroyed. He stepped forward, reaching out to yank Emma away.

Carter wrapped one arm around Emma to steady her and used his other hand to physically block Charles.

"Emma is a doctor. What's needed right now is for all of you to shut up."

Carter's oppressive aura was far too overwhelming; Charles didn't dare utter another syllable.

Emma rapidly finished pricking all ten of Douglas's fingers, letting out drops of blood to relieve the pressure.

"Madam, your bag."

Jeff ran over with long strides. Emma rummaged through her bag, pulled out a small box, and extracted a rather sizable pill from it.

She forced the pill into Douglas's mouth and helped him swallow it before finally slumping heavily against Carter.

"Help Grandfather lie down on the sofa for a bit. He should wake up soon."

As Emma tried to hop back on one foot, Carter simply scooped her up into his arms.

Carter let out an almost imperceptible sneer.

"As of today, the marriage alliance between the Harringtons and Lockwoods is officially canceled. And you are forbidden from ever stepping foot onto Harrington property again."

Even if Percy still obsessed over Emma, leaving Gillian around to entangle him might keep him distracted, but Carter absolutely refused to let Gillian pollute the Harrington home.

After all, Emma was the wife of the current Harrington patriarch. If Gillian was allowed to bark orders here, who in the household would ever respect Emma?

The entire Lockwood family was completely stunned, and even Carter's relatives looked visibly shell-shocked.

"Carter, Gillian is your aunt's adoptive daughter, after all. Isn't it a bit inappropriate to do this?"
