Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 201

Emma was genuinely surprised that the Lockwood family had become a competitor.

"Didn't Logan's lab run into trouble?"

Levi sighed. "Dominic Mercer poured hundreds of millions of dollars into it. Logan managed to set up a new lab in record time, and..."

"And what?" Emma asked.

Levi hesitated before speaking. "And he's using the equipment you personally funded for several universities. I don't know how Logan negotiated it, but the equipment is already in transit."

Emma thought about it and smiled.

Just then, her assistant walked in from outside with a fresh coffee and overheard the conversation.

"Boss, aren't you mad that those universities are cashing in on your favors?"

How could she still smile? The assistant was baffled.

Emma nonchalantly looked down, twirling the blue diamond ring on her ring finger. She smiled and said, "Although I said I'd donate to those universities out of my own pocket, the exact details of which schools got what equipment is strictly CFT's confidential information. Rather than how Logan got the equipment, I'm more curious about how those files were leaked."

The assistant's heart skipped a beat; Emma's reaction was incredibly sharp.

Levi seemed to just realize it as well, suddenly sitting up in his hospital bed.

"You're right. I didn't think that far ahead at the time. This is serious. I need to look into it."

Levi tried to get out of bed, but Emma stopped him. "There's no rush. Logan already has the equipment anyway. Investigating now won't salvage anything. Just focus on recovering."

Emma's indifferent attitude left the assistant feeling even more uncertain.

He tentatively asked, "But what if more confidential information gets leaked?"

"As long as the national project isn't compromised, the rest doesn't matter."

Emma then looked at Levi. "Just rest up, Levi. First thing tomorrow morning, I'll personally take a team to the lab to transfer the samples."

Levi still looked completely worried. Emma stood up. "I'm moving today, so I'll come see you another time. Get some rest. Don't worry about the company."

"Let me walk you out, Boss," the assistant offered eagerly, standing up.

Travis chimed in, "Do you want me to send a security detail to guard the lab right now?"

"No need to go through all that trouble. The lab's security system is top-notch, and I'll be there bright and early tomorrow. Nothing will happen."

Emma walked out of the hospital room, heading straight for Carter, and naturally slipped her arm through his.

Gillian sounded deeply dissatisfied, while Violet wore a look of regret.

"And all that talk about a DNA test, saying there's a chance of twins... It's absurd. Do Emma and I look alike at all? What kind of twins don't look identical? You just let her bluff you."

Violet felt Gillian made sense. Besides, if it were twins, even without an ultrasound, she would have felt it during the pregnancy.

She really had let Emma mess with her head.

"It's not that I'm forcing you to cut ties with Emma, Mom. It's just that the project competition is fierce right now. If you go to the testing center at a time like this, what if CFT pulls some dirty trick? It's a good thing I was quick on my feet and called you back today. Otherwise, who knows what would have happened."

Gillian let out a soft scoff.

"CFT is a foreign company, after all. Even if they're registered here, their headquarters is overseas. We can't let a national engineering project fall into the hands of a foreign corporation, right?"

Violet nodded repeatedly. "You're right, Gillian. I was too reckless. Emma... well, she spent six years abroad. I really should be more careful. Don't worry, I won't see her for a while."

The mother and daughter walked further into the store. Carter looked at Emma with concern. She valued relationships so much; hearing those words must have broken her heart.

Carter was about to comfort her, but Emma spoke first.

"Carter, are you interested in partnering up to build an elixir production plant?"
