Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 202

The Jennings Medicated Elixir business didn't matter to Emma financially. She didn't need the sales to secure her position.

But if doing it would piss off the Lockwoods, she was more than happy to do it.

Carter was one hundred percent on board with the partnership. He was eager to deepen his connection with Emma however he could.

Before heading to Alfred's house, Emma called Sebastian.

Hearing that Emma was interested in the medicinal oil business, he immediately rushed to the capital.

"Alfred, we're back. Carter came to see you too."

Emma spoke cheerfully. Jeff immediately handed the purchased gifts to the butler.

Alfred cast a lukewarm glance, not giving Carter the warmest reception, but keeping it polite.

"I won't stop you from moving back, but remember this: if the Harringtons ever dare to mistreat you, don't let them get away with it. You didn't marry into their family to suffer."

Alfred looked at Emma with affection, then shot a slightly warning look at Carter.

"Don't worry, I will protect Emma."

Carter stated his stance. Alfred scoffed. "If I didn't think you were half-decent, I never would have let Emma marry into the Harringtons."

Carter was known for keeping a clean reputation. Since he was a childhood friend of Alfred's grandson, the old man knew his character.

Hearing this actually made Carter quite happy. It was a good thing his public image was solid.

The whole room was enjoying dinner when Alfred's third son and his wife, Valerie, returned.

"Emma's here too. What a coincidence."

Valerie spoke with a pointed edge. Before her husband could add anything, Alfred intervened.

"I know you're from the Ryder family, and you're upset that Emma intervened in their mess."

Emma looked over. So Valerie was a Ryder?

"Dad, Emma left Sienna rotting in a holding cell for days. Was whatever happened really worth going that far?"
