Emma Lockwood checked the six or seven hospitals in Garrison City one by one, but found no clues.

"Don't worry about the hospitals. I'll talk to the team and have them look into it for you. Once I finish my current project, I'll head back to help," Julian Vance's voice came through the phone. Emma's restless anxiety over the dead end instantly vanished.

She knew Julian was currently overwhelmed managing the research for a new batch of equipment.

"You're coming back because of CFT Corporation's new domestic branch, right? I can manage it for you," Emma offered.

Julian chuckled. "You never liked corporate management. We won't force you this time. Just do what makes you happy."

"I should start sharing the burden with everyone. I'm not a kid anymore."

Emma paused, afraid he would worry about her overworking, and added, "Besides, I need a job to distract myself right now. I did just go through a bad breakup."

Julian knew she wasn't the type to spiral over a failed relationship, but his tone still softened with sympathy. "Alright. The company just secured the production and sales rights for a new batch of pharmaceuticals domestically. You can take charge of the negotiations, and I'll assign an assistant to you."

Emma chatted with him for a bit longer before hanging up.

Since there were no leads in Garrison City for now, she had no choice but to return to Capital City.

The moment she arrived, she was summoned to Lockwood Manor.

"What do you want?" Emma asked as she entered the living room. Charles Lockwood had texted her that if she didn't show up today, she shouldn't bother coming back at all.

She was genuinely curious about what had him in such a rush.

Charles sat on the sofa, a dark folder containing her family registry papers resting on the coffee table.

"Your registry is still tied to the Lockwood family."

Emma arched an eyebrow. So, they wanted to officially remove her from the family?

"You joined CFT Corporation after graduation? Are you an accountant there, or what?" Charles asked out of nowhere.

The Lockwoods had originally sent Emma abroad to study at a top-tier finance academy. In Charles's mind, even though CFT was a medical giant, Emma could only be working in their finance department.
