Before Emma even made it back to the office, Dr. Abbott from Metropolitan Medical Center called her.
"You're the only one who can handle this surgery. The patient's tibia is severely fractured and deformed, likely from secondary trauma. Our standard protocol here is amputation, but if you operate, the success rate will be significantly higher."
Emma frowned. She hadn't expected Dominic to be this vicious.
"Ms. Lockwood, I'm begging you, please save my daughter! She's so young and beautiful, how can she lose her leg?"
The desperate, sobbing voices of Tiffany's parents echoed through the phone, pulling at Emma's conscience.
"I promise, no matter how the surgery turns out, we won't blame you! We just need you to try!"
Emma pressed her lips together. "Dr. Abbott must have informed you that I don't possess a medical license in this country."
"I know, but you can scrub in as a consulting foreign surgeon for an emergency procedure! Even if it fails, you won't be held legally responsible! Ms. Lockwood, as long as you come, we'll do whatever you want. Just please save my daughter!"
Victoria was weeping uncontrollably. After a long silence, Emma finally spoke.
"I'm heading to Metropolitan Medical."
She hung up the phone, her expression darkening.
"If you want to save her, don't worry about the legalities," Carter said, his unwavering tone grounding her.
Emma shook her head. "I have no choice but to go. Tiffany's parents went directly to the hospital director and know I'm her only hope. If I refuse, they have every right to destroy me in the court of public opinion."
Dominic really was a monster. He had orchestrated an open conspiracy, backing her into a corner where every option felt like a trap.
"I can handle him," Carter said, adjusting his watch and pulling out his phone to make arrangements.
Emma reached over and stopped his hand. "Metropolitan Medical is Julian's hospital. Since I'm here, I can't let its reputation be dragged through the mud."
Seeing her resolve, Carter had no choice but to let her handle it her way.
The car sped to the surgical wing. A team of nurses was already waiting outside to escort her.
"The OR is prepped. Dr. Ann, you can scrub in whenever you're ready."
Emma nodded and headed upstairs to change. Carter quickly ushered Tiffany's frantic parents out of the surgical corridor.
By the time Carter returned to the waiting area, Dominic was already there.
"Mr. Harrington, keeping a tight leash on your wife, I see?"
