Emma didn't refuse again. She told him she would visit in a couple of days once her schedule cleared up.

She could use the opportunity to see if she could secretly snatch a hair sample from Violet with the follicle attached.

"Are you worried about alerting them, which is why you didn't just ask Logan for the DNA test outright?"

Carter was one of the few people who knew she was trying to uncover her true origins.

Emma nodded. "VP Levi getting robbed of the hair samples on his way to the lab doesn't feel like a coincidence. It's better to investigate quietly."

"So, are you planning to go back today? Should I pick you up from your office?"

Carter stared at his phone during the call, his eyes softening with undeniable warmth.

Emma was also busy with her own work and paused to think. "No need. I'll come find you in a bit. I'm almost done here."

"Then I'll wait for you at the office."

Carter loved it when Emma visited his company. He practically wished the entire building knew she was his wife.

Of course, he was equally happy to visit CFT, but with so many researchers running around, he didn't get to assert his dominance quite as much.

Once Emma finished up, she had Zachary drive her to the Harrington Group. When she walked into the lobby, she saw a young woman directing delivery drivers to place items on the front desk.

"Coffee for everyone. Miss, could you swipe me up to Carter's floor? I'm his sister."

The young girl spoke sweetly, but Emma acted as if she hadn't heard a word, walking straight toward the private executive elevator.

"Who is that? How can she use that elevator? Is she Carter's new secretary?"

Without waiting for the receptionist to answer, the girl marched briskly toward Emma.

"Hey, you—"

Before she could even finish her sentence, the elevator doors slid open.

Carter stepped out. "I figured you'd be arriving right about now. Looks like my timing was perfect."

"Carter!"

Emma didn't even have a chance to interject before Tessa Talbot shoved past her, nearly knocking her off balance.

Fortunately, Carter was quick and caught Emma in his arms, preventing her from taking a nasty spill.
