Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 221

Emma agreed.

Even though the Harrington family had strictly forbidden Gillian from entering the estate, Pamela had already put the pressure on. If Emma didn't give her face now, she would look ungrateful.

Besides, it wasn't her place to dictate the Harrington family's affairs, so there was no need to make things completely hostile.

When Gillian saw Emma, she still looked somewhat resentful.

But someone must have said something to her, because she reluctantly squeezed out, "I'm sorry."

Hearing those words come out of her mouth was quite a novelty. Emma raised a faint eyebrow, choosing not to respond.

"Emma, Mom is sick. If you have time, go back and see her. She feels terrible about how she treated you, and the guilt is eating her up."

Logan had also softened his stance. Emma pondered for a moment before replying, "I'll have a doctor sent to the Lockwood Manor."

"More than a doctor, Mom definitely wants to see you right now."

Logan tried to persuade her, but Emma's lips curled into an unreadable smile. "Is that so? I highly doubt it."

"You know how much our grandparents dote on her. You two falling out like this is breaking their hearts, too."

Logan continued to play the emotional card, but Carter had heard enough.

"When you were all making things difficult for her, did you ever stop to think if the Jennings grandparents would be heartbroken?"

Carter dominantly pulled Emma into his arms.

"When you stole the results she worked day and night to research, claimed them as your own, and then had the audacity to play the victim, did you ever consider that you were dragging both the Jennings and Lockwood families through the mud?"

Seeing Carter defend her so fiercely, Emma looked up at him, a faint smile touching her eyes.

Percy, who happened to walk out at that moment, faltered in his steps.

In the past, Emma used to smile at him exactly like that.

"Emma."

"Mr. Lockwood, I'm a businessperson too."

Emma's cool eyes reflected nothing but distance.

"Aside from using your so-called grace to extort favors from me, when has the Lockwood family ever truly treated me like a daughter? When you need me, I'm suddenly family. When things are fine, you remind me of my place. Now, I'm offering to write off this massive debt in exchange for you never using my upbringing against me again. Can you really not even do that?"

Her words were ruthlessly precise, striking straight at his core and leaving Logan thoroughly ashamed.

He let out a long sigh, unable to comprehend how their relationship had fractured to this point.

"Just go home and see Mom. I can issue that statement for you."

Logan still wanted Violet to recover quickly. Whenever she drifted in and out of sleep, she would call out Emma's name. She clearly missed her but was too ashamed to face her.

Emma felt a wave of annoyance, but Logan added one last plea.

"Just consider it a favor for the days she spent accompanying you while you studied medicine and sorted herbs. Go back just this once."
