Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 227

Emma closed the video, acting as if she couldn't care less and didn't want to get involved.

But a few moments later, she ordered the driver to pull over.

"Tim, I need you to find a location for me."

She made the call, and Tim got back to her almost instantly.

He sent over the address of an exclusive private club.

Emma prepared to head over, immediately dialing Carter.

"Something came up, so I won't be heading back just yet. You and Travis go home and rest."

Carter glanced down at his bandaged arm—it really wasn't a big deal. He quickly decided, "Where are you going? I'll come with you. Otherwise, Travis will lose his mind worrying and insist on dragging himself over there."

Travis shot him a dark, thoroughly displeased glare upon hearing that.

Carter met his gaze, silently challenging him: *Are you really going to let her go alone?*

Travis went silent. He couldn't argue with Carter's logic.

In his current battered state, Emma would absolutely never let him tag along.

"Have Jeff pull over. I'll come get you."

By the time Emma's car arrived, Carter was already waiting on the sidewalk.

"What happened?"

Carter settled into the car, visibly pleased to finally be riding alone with his wife.

Emma handed him the phone and played the video. On the screen, Phoebe was drenched in alcohol, sobbing miserably on her knees while someone viciously yanked her hair.

Carter's eyes narrowed dangerously. "We can just send someone to handle this. You don't need to go personally."

Emma pressed her lips together and tapped a dark corner of the video.

Carter finally noticed the figure partially obscured in the shadows. It looked remarkably like Tessa.

"She's a relative of my aunt's family. Since she has ties to the Harringtons, I don't trust anyone else to handle it without making a mess."

Carter looked at her and gently took her hand.

He knew Tessa was just an excuse. Deep down, Emma still couldn't completely abandon the girl who had walked alongside her from childhood into adolescence.

Emma always had a sharp tongue but a soft heart.

Outside the club, Tim was leaning against a wall, smoking a cigarette while he waited for her.

"I just got here too. Those rich kids inside are bad news. I figured Travis wouldn't be able to make it since he got banged up, so I came to back you up. Didn't expect Mr. Harrington to show up, though."
