Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 242

Logan watched helplessly as the painting was purchased, a sudden realization washing over him.

Emma wasn't just selling a painting; she was showcasing her resolve to abandon the Lockwood family.

Meanwhile, an infuriated Gillian climbed into her car.

"Emma Lockwood! Why is she everywhere?!"

Phoebe sat beside her, afraid to speak.

Gillian turned to glare at her. "Are you regretting not sucking up to her now?"

"Of course not! Gillian, you're way more important to me than she is."

Gillian's explosive temper simmered down slightly. "That's better. Don't forget how Emma treated you when she went abroad. I was the one who helped you time and time again. I even spent millions of dollars to secure that gallery space for you."

Phoebe nodded. "I know all that. I'm just wondering... where did you get that kind of money?"

The Lockwoods gave Gillian a generous allowance, but it definitely wasn't in the millions.

Gillian's gaze darkened. "Don't worry about that. Even without Emma's help, you need to win Dori's favor and secure a spot in her company."

"Dori's HR rep already reached out to me. She hinted that as long as my portfolio stands out at this showcase, I'm guaranteed a position."

Phoebe was confident in herself; she had graduated at the top of her class, after all.

Gillian narrowed her eyes. "Once you get into Dori's company, with all their resources, making money will be easy. Just don't forget about me when you make it big."

"Don't worry, Gillian. I'll work hard to earn back the money you spent on the boutique and repay you."

Phoebe had no idea where Gillian got the funds, and she didn't need to know.

All she had to do was focus on making money for Gillian.

"Good. Just remember that."

As the exhibition went on, Carter had arranged a spectacular five-star banquet on the top floor of The Crystal Pagoda.

Upon learning that the guests were the very people who had purchased Emma's art during her hardest times, Carter went above and beyond. He generously organized private tours for them around the country, fully covering their travel, accommodations, meals, and even shopping.

"You supported my wife when she needed it most. Now that she has the means, it's only right she gives back. She planned all of this—it was her idea."

When the foreign guests thanked Carter, he smoothly credited all the effort to Emma.

"Right."

Percy clenched his fists, wanting to say more, but Carter had already returned.

He stepped protectively to Emma's side. "Don't you have a company to manage for Raymond?"

Faced with Carter's overwhelming possessiveness, Percy couldn't find the words. He couldn't afford to clash with his cousin over Emma again. The family would only blame her, and his grandfather would be furious with him.

He walked away with his head hung low, a flash of triumph gleaming in Carter's eyes.

Thank God he acted fast. He had already ordered Jeff to buy every remaining piece.

Otherwise, those paintings would have ended up hanging in Percy's bedroom.

After the exhibition, Emma was ready to head straight home, but a sudden text message made her leave in a hurry.

Carter clearly saw that the sender's profile picture was a man.

The message read:

Em, I've boarded my flight. I'm coming back to the country today. Surprised? Come pick me up.
