Gillian frowned at Jocelyn, scoffing disdainfully. "And who are you supposed to be? Do you think your family owns all the reporters in the city?"
Jocelyn offered a slow, wicked smile.
"Funny you should ask. As a matter of fact, we do."
Jocelyn raised an eyebrow, staring down Gillian and Phoebe with an undeniably arrogant glint in her eyes.
"My last name is King. As in King Media Group."
Gillian had never heard of it, but Phoebe certainly had. Her eyes widened in absolute terror.
King's was an immensely powerful, internationally renowned entertainment conglomerate. Its reach spanned the entire global entertainment industry, and its network of resources was virtually limitless.
If King's gave an order, every major media outlet in the country would fall in line.
"Let's go, Em."
Jocelyn shielded Emma as they walked out, but Jean Sutton suddenly collapsed to the floor and began wailing loudly.
"Oh, what a sin! If I had known you were so vain and materialistic, I never would have been tempted to swap you into that rich family! Now you've completely forgotten your roots!"
Emma looked down, studying her closely. "How did you know the pregnant woman you were swapping babies with was rich?"
Jean wiped her tears. "She had so many rich-looking people hovering around her when she went into surgery. Obviously, she was someone important."
"And how exactly did you see this?"
Emma pressed harder. Jean answered without missing a beat, "Obviously, I saw her when I was leaving after giving birth."
"A woman who just gave birth would have family members with her. Furthermore, Peacehaven Hospital's maternity ward and emergency building are completely separate. What exact route did you take to coincidentally pass by a patient undergoing emergency surgery?"
Emma had investigated the matter thoroughly. Back then, her mother had gone into premature labor due to a car crash and was in a coma. There was no time to wait for an obstetrician; the surgery was performed by an ER doctor.
The emergency building was far away from the maternity ward. Was a woman who had just given birth wandering around the hospital halls holding a newborn baby without her family stopping her?
"If you don't believe me, just look at the DNA test! It's been over twenty years, who can remember those details?"
Gillian interjected, adding, "If you think I'm as despicable as you and swapped the reports, then let's do a live, monitored test right now."
Emma narrowed her eyes. Uncle Raymond's timing was suspiciously impeccable.
"How do you plan to handle this?" Raymond demanded. "The Harrington genes must remain pristine."
As soon as he spoke, Carter was about to retaliate, but Pamela beat him to it.
"What kind of nonsense is that? Regardless of who Emma's biological parents are, Carter is already married to her! I spent the entire ride trying to talk sense into you, why must you insist on interfering in Carter's family affairs?"
Pamela aggressively defended Emma, her tone bordering on outright anger.
Raymond sighed, turning back to gently take her hand, coaxing her softly. "I'm not interfering with his family affairs. But as the head of the family, Carter must ensure the next generation's genes are flawless. There can be no inherent flaws."
He finished and turned his cold eyes toward Jean. "Do you honestly believe a person capable of stealing and swapping an infant doesn't carry inherent moral defects in her blood? I absolutely refuse to allow such genes to exist in the bloodline of the Harrington family for generations to come."
Having made his stance clear, Raymond swept his gaze over the crowd.
"Everyone, return to the Harrington estate with me. We must settle this once and for all today."
