Carter's sudden hospitalization sent the Harrington family into a frantic panic.
Outside the VIP wing of Metropolitan Medical Center, even Douglas Harrington had arrived.
"You? Are you and Carter putting on some kind of act to deceive us? Douglas is getting on in years; his heart can't take this kind of manipulation," Carter's aunt scoffed angrily when she saw Julian stepping out of the room.
Jeff quickly interjected, "He suddenly started coughing up blood and collapsed right after seeing the divorce papers."
The bloodstains on his sleeves were convincing enough.
Carter's mother felt an immediate pang of heartbreak and glared at her sister-in-law. "Do you honestly think Carter would stoop to that?"
She then turned her worried gaze to Julian. "How is he?"
"He suffered from acute emotional shock. He's stable for now, but he hasn't regained consciousness," Julian said, glancing over the crowd. "I recommend keeping him here for observation. He's already in his room. You can go in and see him."
Emma arrived at that exact moment.
"Julian, how is he?"
A flicker of anxiety danced in Emma's eyes. Travis, who had returned to the lab, trailed right behind her.
"Let me see his charts," Travis requested.
Travis also assumed Carter was truly unconscious and took the medical reports from Julian to review.
Emma had barely glanced at the papers when Raymond snatched the divorce agreement right out of Jeff's hands.
"Since Carter is incapacitated, I'll sign these divorce papers for him."
He pulled out a pen, ready to sign, when a firm hand suddenly grabbed his wrist.
"Raymond."
Julian yanked the agreement away, a subtle, icy glare glinting behind his glasses.
"The Harrington family has crossed the line."
In Julian's eyes, the Harringtons had shown his junior zero respect.
"First, you publicly break off an engagement, then rush into a sudden marriage, and now an elder is trying to force a divorce on his behalf."
"What exactly does Emma mean to you people? And what does the Vance family mean to you?"
Julian publicly challenging Raymond felt like a harsh slap to the face for the Harrington family.
Julian had noticed Travis practically living in the lab day and night recently.
Travis hated the hospital more than any of them. Seeing him push himself to this extent for Emma had genuinely softened Julian's heart.
After all, he was his own junior; there was no reason not to help him.
Hearing those words, Travis's eyes instantly lit up.
"Really?"
"I'll keep an eye on the lab for you."
Before Julian could finish, Travis had already sprinted off.
Those exact words were overheard by Jeff, who hadn't walked far.
Jeff gritted his teeth. For the sake of his boss's happiness, he had to take action.
With trembling hands, he pulled out his phone and covertly dialed Emma's number.
"Emma, the Harrington Corporation has a massive deal to negotiate with the Morton family today. But with the boss in this condition, it's not looking good. Could you possibly go in his place?"
