Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 267

Emma was completely unaware of the ensuing chaos at the hospital, and Julian hadn't mentioned a word of it.

She moved out of Carter's mansion and into an apartment near her office.

"Jean's entire family has been brought over," her assistant informed her.

Emma stood up. "Let's go take a look."

When she arrived at Jean's apartment, the newly furnished place was already a mess.

The spacious living room reeked of cigarette smoke. Emma frowned, and her assistant quickly moved to open the windows.

"Emma, these are your brothers, Ted and Cody," Jean introduced them enthusiastically.

The two boys looked to be right in the thick of their teenage years. They sized Emma up—one with an eager, fawning grin, the other with a look of pure arrogance.

Just then, a man stepped out of the bathroom, actively buckling his belt. Seeing his crude behavior, the assistant immediately stepped in front of Emma to block her view.

"Ms. Lockwood, why don't you head back first? I can handle the arrangements here."

Hearing this, the man loudly protested, "Leaving already? We finally found our long-lost daughter, and you're not even throwing a welcome banquet? We've already invited a bunch of relatives to the city to celebrate!"

The assistant frowned. Were these people just here to leech off her?

"Hey sis, you're the boss of a huge company. Can you hook me up with an easy job? My current work is way too hard," Ted whined. He used to work in a factory and came home every day with a broken back.

Jean chimed in with a greedy smile, "And what about Cody's schooling? You have so much power. Can you get him into a top-tier school?"

Cody, who had been brooding quietly, finally spoke up. "I want to go to the most elite prep school in the city."

Standing by the door, Emma raised an eyebrow at them. "Are you all finished? Good. Now listen to me."

The entire family fell silent. Emma looked at Ted first. "Someone will pick you up shortly. I've arranged a job for you."

She then turned to Cody, pulling a folder from her designer bag. "These are transfer documents for the best prep school in the city."

"Ms. Lockwood, the people you asked me to plant are all in position."

Emma's lips curled into a smirk, her eyes gleaming with absolute control.

The reason Jean's family had agreed to play along was simple: money.

When dealing with people like this, all you had to do was drop them into a world they didn't belong in. As their desires swelled, they would inevitably find themselves desperate for more cash.

And when that happened, her trap would spring.

"Also, the operation against the Harrington Corporation has commenced."

Emma's smile widened.

"It looks like Uncle Raymond is going to come knocking very soon."
