Emma understood the threat perfectly as she strode into the private club.
"Ms. Lockwood, be a doll and toss your panic button on the table."
A devastatingly handsome young man stepped out of the shadows, his deep eyes masking an unreadable, chaotic energy.
Emma narrowed her eyes and didn't reply. The man lazily waved his hand.
A massive screen in the lounge flickered to life, showing the strange woman holding a vial of unknown liquid, waiting for the command to force it down the unconscious Levi's throat.
"To be clear, nothing actually happened last night. But if you don't cooperate, I can't guarantee what will happen next."
Emma's eyes darkened as she pulled the emergency tracker from her pocket and slammed it onto the side table.
The man smirked and casually dropped onto the plush sofa.
"Take a seat, Ms. Lockwood."
Emma sat across from him, remaining entirely silent.
"Aren't you going to ask me anything?"
Emma stared him down. "Aren't you going to tell me?"
"Since you're such a straight shooter, I'll cut to the chase. I'm here to clean up Raymond's mess."
The man swirled his crystal glass, a half-smile playing on his lips.
Emma raised an eyebrow. "Raymond would use tactics like this?"
Her skepticism was entirely expected. The man chuckled smoothly. "Of course he wouldn't. But I felt like doing him a massive favor."
As Emma calculated the truth behind his words, the man continued in a slow drawl.
"Call off your dogs, and you can take your man home right now. If you insist on pushing forward, not only will your company's reputation be ruined, but you'll also find yourself shopping for a new VP."
He delivered the threat with infuriating calmness. Seeing Emma still refusing to speak, he pressed on.
"Besides, the drama surrounding your birth and your marriage is already headline news. If the VP of CFT's domestic branch gets caught in a scandal right now, the government contracts you just secured will vanish into thin air. And from what I know, CFT is highly invested in this market.
"If you ruin CFT's domestic reputation over your personal vendettas, how exactly are you going to explain that to headquarters?"
Emma lifted her gaze, locking eyes with him. The fact that he knew so much about CFT meant he had serious power and connections overseas.
Was he the one who chased Timothy out of the country?
"Have some tea, Ms. Lockwood."
"You have beautiful hands, Ms. Lockwood. I hear you're quite lethal with a scalpel. You really must be careful. It would be a tragedy if these hands got crushed."
Emma felt his grip suddenly tighten like a vise, and her brow furrowed.
"Get your hands off her!"
Levi panicked at the sight and struggled violently against his captors.
The man let out a low chuckle and released her hand.
He bowed with exaggerated, gentlemanly elegance. "My apologies, Ms. Lockwood."
"Let him go," Emma commanded flatly, completely ignoring the dark red marks forming on her skin.
Levi was released, and Emma immediately pulled him behind her. Just as she reached the door, the man called out one last time.
"Ms. Lockwood."
He strode over quickly, picked up her panic button from the table, and held it out to her.
"Remember my name. It's Tobias Turner."
