Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 280

Emma had been attacked, but the assailant had covered their tracks flawlessly. It would take time to identify who had tried to hurt her.

Carter had absolutely no intention of staying in the hospital any longer. Conveniently, Travis showed up just in time.

"Come home with me."

Travis habitually grabbed Emma's hand before throwing a cold glare at Carter. "Bring him too."

After finding out Emma had nearly been killed twice in the few days she'd been in Garrison City, there was no way he was letting her out of his sight.

Unable to argue with him, Emma dragged Carter along to stay at Travis's place temporarily.

"Everything I prepped for you is upstairs. Go check it out."

Travis smoothly dismissed Emma, leaving only him and Carter on the first floor.

"My men caught the guy from the escalator. He's one of yours," Travis stated, glaring viciously at Carter.

Carter's gaze darkened. "Are you absolutely certain?"

Travis pulled an ID badge from his pocket and tossed it over. It clearly identified the man as an employee of the Harrington Corporation's local branch.

"Your family hates my sister, and she definitely doesn't need the Harringtons. Your Uncle Raymond has been targeting her relentlessly, and have you actually protected her once? Percy is a piece of trash, and you're no better."

As far as Travis was concerned, Carter had milked Emma for plenty of benefits. Lockwood Pharma, which used to belong to the Jennings family, was now co-owned by Carter and Emma.

Carter was also reaping massive profits from the sales of The Jennings Medicated Elixir.

Even Douglas's life had been saved by his sister.

The Harringtons had taken so much from her, and this was how they repaid her? By terrorizing her?

"Divorce her. Show some spine and stop dragging her down with you."

Travis was admittedly biased, but he genuinely believed marrying Carter had brought Emma nothing but misery and exhaustion.

A frosty chill instantly settled over Carter's eyes.

"Are you telling us to divorce for Emma's sake, or do you have some ulterior motives of your own?"

Carter's aura flared, his domineering presence slamming straight into Travis's icy aggression.

"So what if I do?" Travis mocked with a sneer. "Carter, take this as a threat. Divorce my sister immediately, or else..."

A vicious glint flashed in Travis's eyes. "Your Uncle Raymond will be doing a lot more than just sitting in a wheelchair."

His family being threatened crossed a hard line. Carter stared him down fiercely. "Try it."

Neither man backed down an inch. But the very next second, Travis's lips curled into a smirk.

The moment the bedroom door upstairs creaked open, Travis suddenly threw himself backward, crashing violently onto the glass coffee table.

The glass shattered into a thousand jagged pieces. Hearing the horrific crash, Emma sprinted to the railing. "Travis!"

She dashed down the stairs. With his back to her, Travis shot Carter a profoundly arrogant, provocative look.

"Travis, let's get you cleaned up. If it's bad, we might have to go to the hospital."

Emma was incredibly anxious. Her brother was a professional racer; an arm injury was catastrophic for him.

Because of that, she couldn't spare any attention for Carter.

Standing amidst the wreckage, Carter felt his heart shatter into more pieces than the ruined glass coffee table at his feet.

He clenched his fists tightly. He couldn't believe Travis had played such a dirty trick.

"Emma."

He called out to her. Emma paused and looked back, but Travis had no intention of giving him a chance to explain.

"This is all my fault. I only raised some suspicions about his Uncle Raymond. I never expected him to get so violent."

As he spoke, Travis covertly squeezed his wounded arm, causing fresh blood to gush out even faster.

Emma looked at Carter with conflicted eyes. Logically, Carter wasn't the type to lash out physically, but when it came to his family...

"Let's just get you bandaged up first."

Hearing his sister say that, Travis felt a flare of sheer dissatisfaction.

She actually trusted Carter that much. She wasn't even going to scream at him.

It seemed the only way to break them up was to go entirely after Raymond.
