Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 31

*Bang.*

Charles Lockwood slammed the contract onto the desk, his face contorted with anger.

"You're taking over this pharmaceutical company whether you want to or not. Go handle the legal representative transfer tomorrow."

Seeing that he could no longer keep up the act, Emma walked over and picked up the contract.

"I really want to ask, what exactly did I do wrong? Is it just because I'm not biologically a Lockwood that you choose to sacrifice me without a second thought?"

The moment she asked, Charles knew he hadn't managed to keep it a secret from her.

"The Lockwoods took care of you for all these years! We paid for your studies abroad. While you were living a life of luxury with us, Gillian was suffering. She was so malnourished from starvation, yet she couldn't even bear to eat a single egg! Our biological daughter had a hard life, but she still treats you with her whole heart. Now that we're asking you to make a sacrifice, what grounds do you have to refuse?"

Charles's sense of entitlement completely infuriated Emma.

"What does you mixing up the babies have to do with me? You were the ones who insisted on sending me abroad in the first place. I fell into a coma multiple times from high fevers overseas, but because I had no money, I couldn't even afford to go to the hospital. I had to tough it out on my own."

As Emma spoke of these things, despite the anger burning in her chest, she appeared frighteningly calm on the surface.

"The cost of living abroad was incredibly high. The allowance Violet gave me wasn't enough even when I scrimped and saved. On top of that, I was almost robbed at gunpoint and nearly lost my life."

A fiery intensity simmered in Emma's gaze, veiled beneath a deceptive layer of calm.

"If you didn't want to claim me, you should have told me earlier. You couldn't bear to let go of the marriage alliance with the Harrington family, and you wanted to keep me around to take the fall for the Lockwoods. Yet, you wouldn't even invest a shred of emotional care. Did you really take me for a fool?"

For the past six years, she genuinely believed that the Lockwood family was going through a tough time, which was why they couldn't show her much care.

That was why, even when she was struggling to survive abroad, she gritted her teeth and pushed through. She worked herself to the bone studying and working part-time to earn a double degree, slowly building her current skills and nest egg, all with the thought of helping the Lockwoods soar to the top once she returned.
