Carter had originally wanted to ask Emma out for dinner, but he was turned down.
"Carter, I just bought a new bracelet. It's got stunning diamonds, but it was so expensive it completely drained my allowance."
Scarlett strutted into her brother's office. Seeing him staring blankly at his phone, she leaned over to steal a glance.
"Percy told me you've been getting pretty close to his former fiancée lately. Carter, don't tell me you..."
Scarlett recalled how at the dinner table yesterday, her brother had also stared at his phone before abruptly leaving—and the destination was a coffee shop, a place he usually despised.
Carter looked up calmly, his hand moving to block the screen.
"If you don't have an allowance, then go hungry."
Scarlett immediately pouted, stamping her foot in arrogant dissatisfaction. "I'm your biological sister!"
Carter remained unmoved. His sister never thought about studying hard; instead, she was always the first in line whenever a luxury brand released a new product.
Rolling her eyes, Scarlett dug an exquisite box out of her bag.
"It's one of only two diamond bracelets of its kind in existence. It works like a charm for coaxing people. No girl could ever reject such a beautiful piece."
Scarlett blinked her large eyes rapidly. She had really broken the bank for this one.
"Tsk." Carter lowered his gaze, his eyes sweeping over the box.
Emma had gone to the Lockwood Group yesterday, and she had headed out again today.
He had previously had someone investigate Jennings Pharma. The report stated that the current legal representative was Charles's biological brother, Bernard, and that over the years, the amount of fraudulent declarations and tax evasion had reached tens of millions of dollars.
She was probably dealing with that matter.
At the thought of this, Carter furrowed his brow slightly. He suddenly stood up, grabbed the box, and headed for the door.
"Get someone to take Scarlett home, and prep the car for Garrison City."
Just as Scarlett was about to stop him, she heard him add, "Go to the finance department and ask for a card."
"Then I wish you luck in winning the beauty's heart, Carter."
Scarlett leaned against the desk, eyeing her brother's retreating figure with a mix of surprise and sly amusement.
No wonder he had shown such unwarranted interest in Percy going abroad earlier. It seemed he had an ulterior motive all along.
She thought for a moment, then took out her phone and made a call. "Have someone keep an eye on Emma's recent schedule."
Emma had indeed arrived in Garrison City, but she hadn't gone to the pharmaceutical company.
The tax evasion issue at the plant hadn't been exposed yet. If she showed her face near there now, she wouldn't be able to explain herself cleanly.
