Phoebe's mind was in absolute turmoil. The mention of her job at the company made her freeze.
"Emma, I know you only let me in to save face. Whatever happened between us has nothing to do with my mom. I'm begging you, please send someone to find her. Please..."
Seeing Phoebe's frantic, desperate state, Emma frowned deeply.
"Is that the kind of person you think I am?"
Phoebe panicked even more at the question. "No, that's not what I meant..."
"Enough."
Jocelyn glared at Phoebe, her patience completely exhausted.
"My junior owes you nothing. She already promised to have someone look into it. Even if she refused, you'd have no right to complain."
Jocelyn disliked Phoebe from the bottom of her heart. After all, the very first time she met her upon returning to the country, Phoebe was publicly humiliating Emma.
This was her precious junior. She wasn't about to let anyone bully her.
"Alright, hurry up and leave. If you don't step back, I'm calling security."
Jocelyn refused to look at her for another second. Phoebe's desperate, pleading eyes locked onto Emma. Emma looked at the woman standing before her, listened to her accusations, and realized she could no longer reconcile this person with the pure, innocent Phoebe from their teenage years.
Emma silently turned around, offering zero objection to Jocelyn's threat.
Phoebe's heart turned to ash.
Only in this exact moment did she truly realize that whatever friendship she once shared with Emma was completely dead.
When Carter returned, he immediately sensed the heavy atmosphere.
He walked to Emma's side, glancing at Phoebe, who was still hovering near the table. He frowned.
"What happened?"
Emma shook her head. "Nothing. Where did you go?"
"Bought a bag for Jocelyn."
On cue, Jeff stepped forward and presented a freshly purchased luxury bag to Jocelyn.
Carter then handed the shopping bag in his own hand to Emma.
