Emma took a trip to the police station, and word of it quickly reached the Lockwoods' ears.
The family was on pins and needles, and Charles was utterly furious.
"What else is she plotting? Does she want to send me away too, or is she planning to drag out this issue with Tristan?!"
Charles was consumed with anxiety. The pharmaceutical company's tax issues had already implicated several subsidiaries of the Lockwood Group. Almost every company under his name was now facing audits, and numerous partners had paused their collaborations, sitting on the sidelines to see how the fallout would develop.
Encountering such a catastrophe right amidst the boom of the domestic medical market was a brutal blow to the Lockwoods.
"Summon Emma here immediately and ask her what the hell she wants!" Charles gritted his teeth, glaring at his wife with volatile intensity.
Tristan sat on the sofa, his expression incredibly somber.
The incident at the construction site kept replaying in his mind. Not only had that wretched girl thoroughly humiliated him, but now she had the sheer nerve to call the cops.
"Charles, Violet, let me handle this."
Tristan stood up and marched toward the door, only to be stopped by Logan.
"Stop acting like a fool." Logan narrowed his eyes, staring at his phone as he spoke. "I'll resolve this. Until I hash things out with Emma, do not make any reckless moves."
"Logan, what is there to talk about with her? She literally called the police on Charles. She's a hopeless backstabber."
Tristan aggressively ran his hands through his hair, his eyes blazing with fury.
Logan shot him a dismissive look, and Tristan instantly turned his head, falling dead silent.
For a moment, a suffocating tension filled the living room. Then, Logan's ringing phone shattered the silence.
After a brief exchange, he hung up.
"Emma wants to see me."
Hearing this, a sneer crept onto Tristan's face. "I bet she's just trying to extort us."
