Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 41

Emma Lockwood made a trip to Lockwood Manor, effortlessly drawing all their anger onto herself.

Gillian, in particular, felt her heart sink when she noticed the faint glimmer of emotion in Violet's eyes as she watched Emma walk away.

On Charles's fourth day in holding, the police suddenly sought out Emma.

"Regarding Charles Lockwood's forced transactions and the tax issues with Lockwood Pharma, we'd like you to come down to the station with us."

Emma arrived at the police station to find Gillian and Tristan already there.

"Emma Lockwood, as the largest shareholder of Lockwood Pharma, were you aware of the factory's tax evasion, and did you intentionally conceal it?"

The officer asked the question seriously, but Emma answered with total calm. "I know absolutely nothing about the internal workings of Lockwood Pharma. I haven't touched a single cent of their illicit funds."

"The Lockwoods provided footage of your private meeting with Logan. They claim you offered a transactional exchange, forcing them to buy back the evidence you won at the auction. They are alleging that the video of your assault was a deliberate setup."

Emma couldn't help but laugh out loud at the sheer absurdity.

"Then tell them to produce the proof to back up those ridiculous accusations."

The officer nodded, jotting down notes before asking, "What exactly did you discuss with Logan on the day you met at The Cyan?"

"My residency status. I was transferring my legal documents out of the Lockwood household, so I returned the family registry to him."

Emma answered truthfully. The police asked a few more routine questions before clearing her to leave.

As soon as she stepped outside, Gillian and Logan fixed their eyes on her, their gazes dripping with provocation.

"If you get down on your knees and beg me right now, Emma, I might just be in a good enough mood to let you off the hook."

Gillian looked incredibly smug, but her words only made Emma laugh.

"You? Let me off the hook?" Emma looked at her with mocking amusement. "You'd have better luck wrangling wild horses. It's much more realistic."

She turned to leave, but Gillian grabbed her arm.

Emma's gaze turned somber. A deep, predatory amusement flickered in her eyes as she stared at the hand clutching her sleeve.

Gillian let go instantly as if burned, then, feeling humiliated by her own flinching, lifted her chin and forced a haughty glare. "I already have proof that you bribed the staff at The Cyan. The security cameras caught it all crystal clear."

Emma raised an eyebrow, recalling the day she met Logan. She had indeed handed a stack of cash to the manager who had served her.

"I have to admit, Gillian, the Lockwoods really did raise you well."
