Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 44

Emma's only condition for signing the release was simple: either Gillian apologizes, or Charles apologizes.

When Logan brought the ultimatum back home, Tristan exploded in rage.

"Who the hell does she think she is? She actually thinks Dad and Gillian should grovel to her?"

Tristan's eyes blazed with vicious fury. Gillian burst into tears, screaming, "Emma is only refusing to leave the country because she wants to stay here and humiliate me! Now she's finally getting what she wants. Are you all happy now?"

"Don't cry, Gillian," her two brothers scrambled to comfort her.

Gillian shoved them away angrily, glaring at her mother. "I don't care! I'm not apologizing to her. I didn't do anything wrong!

Is it my fault I'm a daughter of the Lockwood family but had to live like a beggar my whole life? Is it my fault I despise her?"

"Of course it's not your fault, sweetheart."

Violet's heart broke for her. After a moment of hesitation, she stood up. "I'll go talk to her."

Emma was right in the middle of handling business at CFT Corporation when she received her mother's call. She paused her meeting and went downstairs.

"Emma, you..."

Violet saw her carrying a dirty mop bucket downstairs and immediately assumed she was working as a cleaning lady at the massive corporation. A pang of deep sympathy flashed through her eyes.

Emma raised an eyebrow. She had just bumped into an elderly cleaning lady suffering from an arthritis flare-up and had offered to carry the bucket down for her.

"Mom, did you need to see me for something?"

Emma walked over and led her toward the lounge area.

Violet pressed her lips together and let out a long sigh. "I know I put you in a tough spot asking you to get that invitation for the family, and I know your father was wrong about the legal representative issue. But at the end of the day, we're still family. Can't you just look at my face, remember that your last name is Lockwood, and let this go?"

Emma clutched the warm cup of water the receptionist had brought her, a soft laugh escaping her lips.

"Mom, when Charles brought over a dozen bodyguards to force me to sign those shares away, he wasn't planning on letting me go, either."
