Emma arrived at the police station with the signed release form. Before the release could be finalized, she was the only one allowed to see him.
The moment Charles saw Emma walk into the room, his defeated slump vanished. The anger and humiliation that had been festering inside him ignited, burning like a raging inferno in his eyes.
"Why are you the one here? Did you come to laugh at me?"
Emma slid the release form onto the table, interlacing her fingers with elegant poise. "Charles, if you want to walk out of here today, you're going to sign a restraining order right in front of the police, guaranteeing you won't ever bring your thugs to hurt me again."
Even saying the words felt absurd. Legally, they were still father and daughter, yet here they were, treating each other like mortal enemies.
Charles glared at her, swallowing his pride. He had absolutely no desire to spend another minute in this holding cell, and he was desperate to get back to his family.
He took a deep breath, his voice grinding out through clenched teeth. "Fine. I agree."
The guarantee and the release form were signed simultaneously. The second the ink dried, Emma turned to leave.
"Emma Lockwood, after what you've done, don't you ever dream of stepping foot back into Lockwood Manor!"
Charles was panting heavily, his eyes pooling with pure hatred.
Emma chuckled lightly, shrugging her shoulders without a care in the world.
"It's just the Lockwood family. Did you honestly think I actually cared?"
She had never wanted anything from their wealth. When she first returned to the country, all she wanted was to be embraced by her family.
But her return had been hijacked by endless manipulation and conspiracy. The Lockwoods had tried to use her as a stepping stone, perfectly willing to crush her just to keep Gillian happy.
They had even nearly sent her to prison. What could possibly be left for her to mourn?
As Emma stepped out of the police station, Violet rushed over anxiously. "Where's your father?"
"I am not her father!"
Charles stormed out right behind her, his voice dripping with absolute disgust.
Emma's lips curled into a sharp, mocking smile. "You tried to send me to federal prison without a second thought, but spending a few days in a holding cell is enough to make you hate me this much?"
Charles wasn't listening to a word she said. In his mind, Emma was nothing but a vicious parasite.
"Get the hell out! Get out of my sight right now!"
He pointed violently down the street. If they weren't standing right outside a police station, he would have taught her a brutal lesson right then and there.
