"Gillian, watch your mouth."

Sebastian snapped, reaching out to yank Gillian away from Carter's line of fire.

"Mr. Harrington, they've started serving the food. Emma must be starving by now."

He spoke smoothly, and Carter's rigid posture finally relaxed as he walked past them.

Sebastian didn't miss how Carter's storm-cloud expression instantly shifted to a gentle breeze the second before he pushed open the door to the private room.

"Sebastian, why are you yelling at me? I didn't say anything wrong!" Gillian complained, thoroughly humiliated and fuming with resentment.

Sebastian scowled at her, then turned to Logan. "Regardless of Emma's background, insulting a man's date right to his face is suicidal. Did a pig eat her brain? Are you stupid too? Do you honestly think a flimsy engagement between our families gives you the right to dictate Carter's business?"

Logan finally grasped the gravity of the situation. This wasn't just a petty squabble between two girls anymore; this involved offending the head of the Harrington family.

"Let's go. We'll eat somewhere else."

Logan pulled Gillian along. Even though he knew she was entirely in the wrong, he couldn't bring himself to scold her.

Gillian, however, completely missed the nuance. All she heard was Sebastian insulting her, and her face flushed bright red with fury.

"Sebastian, how could you side with that outsider? I'm your actual flesh-and-blood cousin!"

Sebastian's expression hardened. "I have a lot of cousins, but only one aunt. Let me give you some advice: dial back the jealousy, or you're going to drag the entire Lockwood family down with you."

With that final warning, he waved dismissively at Logan. "The factory issue is settled. I'm heading back. Do whatever you want."

Watching Sebastian stride away without looking back, Gillian collapsed into a chair and burst into tears.

"What does he mean? Is he blaming me? The issues at Lockwood Pharma have nothing to do with me! Why is he so biased toward Emma? Is it just because Carter has money and power?"
