"If you know it's someone's birthday gala, why don't you put a muzzle on your sister?"

Emma arched a brow, then shifted her gaze to Percy.

"He's just a tool for a business merger. Does a tool get a say in who wants it?"

Percy's face turned a violent shade of purple, clearly vibrating with rage.

Emma beamed at him, thoroughly enjoying the provocation.

"Where is security? Are you just going to let this woman cause a scene?"

Percy snapped his head around, shouting for the guards. Instead of security, Hayden Shaw strolled over.

"I certainly don't have the guts to kick out Carter's date. If you're feeling brave, be my guest."

Hayden smirked, a rakish, lazy grin spreading across his face.

"How could she be Carter's date? No matter how low his standards drop, he wouldn't stoop to eating his younger cousin's leftovers, would he?"

Tristan sneered, his eyes filled with pure malice as he glared at Emma.

The insult was so foul that even Hayden's easygoing expression vanished. He stepped forward to shut Tristan up.
