Emma Lockwood listened to Tristan Lockwood's nonsense and gave a sarcastic laugh.
"It must have been hard for you to string a sentence together."
Tristan's face darkened, and he muttered through gritted teeth, "Emma, I'm doing this for your own good. Don't push your luck. Get out of here right now."
There were no decent girls at this gathering today; they were all just bottle girls.
If word got out, her reputation would be ruined, wouldn't it?
Even though Tristan hated her for stealing his sister's life for over a decade, she was still legally a Lockwood. If her reputation went down the drain, it wouldn't do the Lockwood family any favors.
"Are you out of your mind?"
Emma was genuinely surprised. Given Tristan's personality, he hadn't sought revenge for the humiliation at the birthday banquet.
She didn't know if he had suddenly grown a conscience or if he had been intimidated by Elder Shaw.
She raised an eyebrow and sat down on a high stool at the bar. Tristan's face fell, and he grabbed her shoulder.
"I told you to get out. Did you hear me?"
Emma slapped his hand away. If she hadn't known Tristan had some good intentions, she would have snapped his fingers right off.
"I'm not a Lockwood anymore. Stop trying to control me."
She dismissed him coldly. Tristan scoffed in anger. "Fine. I'll leave you be. Let's see how this ends for you."
Tristan stormed off in a huff, and a waiter approached her again.
"Um... if you don't have an invitation, please leave."
The waiter glanced out of the corner of his eye at the people in the booths. Those rich guys were all staring in their direction with sleazy smirks.
Emma calmly pulled a business card from her bag. "I'd like a coffee first."
"We really aren't—" The waiter tried to persuade her, but he froze the moment he saw the card.
He looked at Emma in astonishment. She smiled. "A coffee?"
"Yes, yes. Please wait a moment."
The waiter respectfully retreated. Tristan frowned in confusion, but his buddies didn't think much of it.
"Your sister is something else. So she didn't go back to the Lockwoods, but came here to hook up with rich guys?"
The blonde man spoke up. Tristan's gaze turned somber. "My sister is Gillian. Don't lump them together. Emma doesn't deserve that."
"That's all I needed to hear."
