Percy patched up his injuries while Gillian kept him company. When she heard that Carter had hit him because of Emma, she immediately bristled with indignation.
"Emma is going way too far."
Gillian carefully applied ointment for Percy. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a piece of paper tucked under the hood of his sweatshirt.
She pulled it out, intending to throw it away as trash, but Sebastian, who had come in with Logan, stopped her.
"What is this..."
Sebastian frowned, surprise evident in his eyes.
Gillian curled her lip in disgust. "Isn't it just a piece of trash?"
Sebastian shot her a cool glance, too lazy to even speak to her. He turned to Logan. "Take a look at this."
On the scrap, barely the size of a palm, was printed a tiny portion of the equipment introduction.
Logan was stunned too.
He quickly flipped the card over. Beneath the elegant, luxurious pattern lay a subtle, intricate watermark.
Logan immediately looked at Percy. "Do you know where this card came from?"
Percy scoffed, "Emma forged it to trick my cousin."
Gillian chimed in, cursing, "Emma is so shameless. She'll stoop to anything."
Logan pinched the scrap of paper, rubbing it carefully between his fingers, and said in a low voice, "It might not be a forgery. There's a unique embossed seal. It should be Vance Group's anti-counterfeit mark."
"Anyone can stamp a seal if they want to. Does that prove Emma didn't fake it?"
Gillian pouted dismissively. Regardless, she refused to believe Emma had that much capability, let alone ties to Vance Group.
Impatience flashed across Sebastian's face as he pulled Logan outside.
"Logan, you know what it means if we can get our hands on this card before the showcase," Sebastian said in a hushed tone.
Logan pursed his lips. Generally, the advance introduction cards issued by Vance Group included the equipment's retail price.
"Logan, is this piece of paper really that important?"
Gillian slipped back into her usual sweet and innocent persona. Logan snapped back to reality and gave a warm smile. "It's nothing. You don't need to worry about these things. Just focus on being our happy little princess."
As long as he was around, Gillian would never have to worry about money.
Gillian beamed brightly, then probed tentatively, "Then will you go find Emma because of this?"
Logan fell silent. He didn't know what to say, nor did he know what to choose.
"If it's for your own good, I don't mind you going to see her. Besides, you two grew up together. You spent more time with her, and you're more like siblings than we are."
Gillian lowered her eyes in disappointment. That expression instantly made Logan's heart ache.
He knew his sister lacked a sense of security the most. He quickly reassured her, promising:
"Don't worry, Gillian. I won't go looking for her because of this. You are my only sister."
