Smart man. No wonder he was destined to become Inez’s mate. His senses were sharp. But then again, compared to Killian, he was still lacking in many ways.
Finn and the rest also seemed to have noticed something. The little shift around in the warehouse made them uncomfortable, which was not surprising given that shifters were often much sharper than the humans. Finn sniffed the air around the cottage, he couldn’t smell shit but the way his shoulders went tense proved that he knew that there was something amiss.
"The smell...that rotting scent is gone," pointed out Tao as the brown haired wolf peeled his upper lip and looked around.
"And there is this scent of bleach...why is it suddenly smelling like bleach?" Ajax questioned as he whiffed the scent inside the cottage.
Veronica whimpered as she took a step back. She knew who it was and she didn’t like it. Of course, the followers of the Goddess of Love could never get along with the ones with death and decay and rot. The scent alone was enough to make them whimper for months.
"There is no point in investigating this cottage anymore," said Tracy as she turned around on her feet and headed out of the living room. "But you won’t find anything thats for sure."
Finn sniffed again. His brows creased with annoyance as he turned to look at her. "I cannot smell the stench from eafrlier anymore."
"Thanks for the input, sherlock," commented Tracy as she stepped out of the cottage.
Seeing her step out of the cottage, so at ease, made Finn frown even harder. When he stepped inside the cottage, chasing after the little witch, he didn’t expect this—whatever this was. He expected chaos and blood and maybe bodies thrown everywhere. But there was nothing. Not a single thing in sight that would explain why this place smelled of rotten dead bodies and now it no longer did.
He was wondering why the cottage suddenly started to smell like bleach. The kind you would find in a hospital, cemetry or every where else where you would find death. All the stench? The rotten scent, it was all gone. Like it never came from this cottage. Like it never existed and it was all in their heads. If he was alone, he for sure would be thinking that his mind had been fucked.
There was a dull thud and everyone turned to look behind them, Tracy who was on her way to the car, also paused and turned to look at the body that had fallen out of nowhere. She frowned as she turned around on her feet and headed back inside, her gaze swiftly landed on the body lying in the middle of the floor and she turned to look back at them. "Does anyone know her?"
"How can she be alive? Look at the state in which her body is. Its looks like she is close to getting eaten clean by the worms," said Tao with a frown.
He was not wrong. Her body was pale and the tips of her fingers as well as the insides of her stomach were filled with wriggly, white maggots, she looked hideous and not at all charming like she did when Finn last saw her. "But she was alive, we saw her. Talking and moving, she is way too dead...for being alive just a few hours. We thought she ran away...never thought that she would turn up here."
"Well, she doesn’t smell like she has been dead..." muttered Laxus as he peered down at the body lying in the middle of the floor.
"The scent is suppressed only because Death was here," remarked Tracy as she studied the body lying in the centre of their little group. She placed her fingers on the forehead of the woman and pulled what looked like a bluish silvery fragment but it soon turned black, which made Tracy frown as if she had lost the one trail that she had gotten her hands on.
"What do you mean by Death?" Tao asked as he whipped his head to look at the witch who was crouching on the floor. "You speak as if Death were here in a literal sense."
