"Woah, no wonder Kill likes her." Matt let out a low whistle and watched Inez walk away without even taking another look at the man whose ego she had shattered in just three seconds. "She is a little firecracker. Just my type."
Levi, always the taciturn and solemn tracker, turned to look at the man with a hint of a frown on his face. "I don’t know what you are thinking about, but you’d better not do it. Not to the woman of your own friend."
"What? Did you really think that I would do something as low as snatching the woman of my friend?" Matt sounded affronted as he looked at his good friend. For two seconds, he couldn’t believe that Levi actually doubted him even for a second.
"I was just joking."
"Haha, yeah... look at how hard I am laughing."
The two of them walked out, still engrossed in their quarrel, while Selene was pushed out by Henley, followed by Greta. One by one, the people in the lodge stepped out, until only Ally and Fenric remained. For two good minutes, Ally maintained her dignified stubbornness, but that only lasted until she heard the guttural roar of a rogue wolf. Strong as she was, Ally knew that if the rogues were to attack the pack, she wouldn’t be able to do anything.
She might be a dominant female, but she cannot take down an entire pack of rogues on her own.
Jumping three inches in the air, she rushed out of the lodge. Her high heels were clicking behind her madly.
Fenric stumbled back to his feet and followed her out. Since everyone was leaving, what was the point of his staying here? He too followed them out of the lodge.
Outside, Selene asked Matt to drive the RV from the garage. Inez had never looked at it before, and now that she was staring at it, she realised that it looked sturdy enough. Though she had some doubts about it being able to hold everyone.
"Put the bags on the top, don’t stuff them all inside."
"Oh, but all my branded clothes are in there. What if it rains? What am I going to do then?"
"Ooh, that’s a shame. Anyway, everyone stay close...now even I am feeling nervous."
Selene spoke in a low voice, and honestly, no one could find fault with her for feeling spooked out. The weather had turned stormy; the clouds had covered most of the sky, and the night that had fallen had turned even darker. From the looks of it, the grey stormy clouds looked like they were about to rain at any moment. Earlier, they didn’t feel like there was any kind of danger lurking in the pack, but now they couldn’t help but feel that there was something off about this entire thing.
"Don’t you think that the clouds look fucking weird?" Henley remarked while eyeing the sky. His eyes were squinting hard as he stared at the dark, stormy clouds lurking in the sky. "It’s really weird—" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"Get inside." Selene’s voice remained heavy as she watched them load up the RV. The pack members, sensing her tone getting more business-like, slowly climbed up inside the RV.
"Can we all even fit inside?" asked Ally dubiously.
No one said a word. Maybe they were too shocked by her sudden show of authority, or maybe they just felt it was weird for someone like Inez to suddenly take control of the situation. Either way, it must have been their own desires and instincts to get out of this place that Levi didn’t waste any time and turned to pull out of the parking lot.
"Stay close to the ocean."
Selene’s voice echoed from behind. "No matter what, don’t stray away from the ocean."
Inez stiffened and turned to look at the woman, but Selene was looking outside the window instead of at her. She didn’t even look at the rest of the pack, who were now looking at her.
"Why?" Matt asked tentatively. He looked like a child who knew that he had asked the wrong question, but still asked it because he couldn’t hold back his own curiosity.
"Just a hunch," was all Selene said.
Matt eyed her and suddenly threw his hands in the air and muttered, "Fine, don’t tell me anything. Anyway, there is nothing that I can do about this situation."
Selene suddenly turned to look at him, and the way her gaze pierced through him, Matt paused and turned his head to the other side without paying attention to her. "There is nothing I can do." He repeated as if affirming these words. As for whom, no one knew.
