"This is it; I cannot hold it in any longer." Matt burst out of the RV as Levi pulled it to a stop. With the tangled branches and lush green leaves, the backdrop of the forest looked beautiful, or it should have looked beautiful, but with the weather turning colder and darker, the entire setting looked rather ominous.
Maybe it is just my perspective, thought Inez. Something within her kept telling her that they needed to keep moving without stopping, but she couldn’t stop others from
"Is something the matter?" Selene asked. Her voice trickled softly like the gentle trickle of the rain. The entire RV was silent; it seemed like even though they didn’t take Inez seriously, the pack members still sensed the danger lurking in the shadows.
Inez shook her head even though her neck was continuously prickling. "It seems like everything is fine."
But it doesn’t seem like anything was fine.
The RV sat undisturbed in the middle of the forest. The rustling of the winds, however, felt anything but peaceful.
Inez turned her head and peered out of the misted window. There was not a single sign of anyone appearing close to the RV and yet ... there was something heavy hovering at the back of their necks. Like something invisible was breathing down their necks. A whisper—a hissing welcome —her fingers twisted and she tugged the frayed edges of her ripped jeans.
"Everyone, stay inside," said Levi. His icy blue eyes scanned through the line of trees. Even though he didn’t say anything, he felt something. Or maybe it was just him being suspicious.
"Do I really have to?" asked Ally as she stretched her long legs. Her blue eyes darted toward the forest with a longing look in her eyes. She was definitely tenser than she was earlier. "I need to stretch out my legs a little bit."
"It should be fine if we stay close to the RV, right?" said Fenric. "Anyway, even if someone were to attack us, it’s not like they would show us any mercy just because we are inside the RV?" When Levi didn’t agree, Fenric rolled his eyes and said to him, "We are not little kids. You cannot trap us inside the RV like we are little toddlers who cannot see wrong from right?"
Levi didn’t look keen on letting them step out, but after a short pause, he shrugged and stepped aside.
"Finally!" Ally groaned, unbuckling herself as she walked out the door. "I thought that my kneecaps were about to turn fucking rusty."
Okay, maybe they were not spooked out of this entire situation as she thought.
"Careful, everyone, stay close."
"We know," snapped Ally as she turned and glared at Selene before pushing open the door of the RV and stepping out.
Levi glanced at the woman who was throwing another tantrum and said to her, "Just listen to her. What is the point of acting like a fucking child?"
"I am not a fucking child." Ally hissed, whipping her head so fast that Inez was sure that she cracked a bone or two.
"What else are you if you are throwing a fucking tantrum just because you cannot go for a walk? Are you a fucking house dog? You are feeling uncomfortable just because you cannot go on a damn evening walk?" Henley muttered, already leading Selene away to another spot where the shade of the trees was thicker and much more protective.
"Are you for real?" Ally protested. However, she still followed Henley without another word.
"They just have to listen to a weirdo of all," spat Fenric as he glared at Inez and walked past her.
Annoying brat. In fact, he was too big to be acting like a little brat. "Well, I will be keeping it in mind. The next time I feel like we are in danger, I am leaving you behind." She sweetly smiled at him, wishing she could have left these two troublemakers behind.
Fenric glowered at her before turning on his feet and heading away. Once he was gone, Levi walked over.
