When we got home, Belle wrapped her arms around my neck and snuggled up to me.

“Mommy, who were those two people earlier? That Alpha looked really scary when he stared at you.”

I gently flicked her nose.

“They’re people I used to know. We won’t be seeing them again.”

Belle finally relaxed, visibly relieved. She bounced off, then came back clutching her little backpack. Like she was presenting a treasure, she pulled out a drawing.

“Mommy, look! I drew our family portrait. This is me, this is Daddy, and this is Mommy…”

I looked at the childish yet joyful drawing and smiled, praising her for how well she’d done.

After I tucked Belle in and got her to sleep, Thomas came up behind me and slipped his arms around my

waist, resting his chin on my shoulder.

“Hope, did they give you any trouble?”

There was a restrained, grinding anger in his voice.

“Especially that Liam.”

“No,” I said with a smile, shaking my head. “I just found it a little ridiculous. He probably thought I’d been

miserable these past six years and was waiting to laugh at me.”

“He did investigate you,” Thomas said lightly. “A while ago, a private investigator tried to dig into your

whereabouts. I took care of it. I didn’t expect him to be the one behind it.”

I froze for a moment. “You knew all along?”

“Of course.” He pinched my cheek gently. “How could I not pay attention when it concerns my Luna?”

In truth, I had always known Thomas had already looked into my past thoroughly.

Back then, after I was rejected and the mate bond was severed, I was kicked out of the pack with nothing to

my name.

Weak to the point of collapse, I fainted beside a frozen lake.

He happened to find me during a patrol. He recognized me as his fated mate and brought me back to the

castle.
