Chapter 8

On the day of the mate gathering, Thomas made a point of bringing me with him.

I wore the custom gown he had ordered for me.

As I looped my arm through his and stepped into the lakeside garden of the pack house, every gaze in the

room turned toward me.

Liam, as the hosting Alpha, stood on the stage.

The moment he saw me, his face drained of color. The champagne glass in his hand nearly slipped from his

fingers.

Maggie stood beside him in a cheaply made dress.

Compared to my couture gown, she looked painfully out of place. Her expression darkened to the extreme.

Halfway through the mate gathering, the pack elders invited Thomas onto the stage to speak.

He took the microphone. His gaze swept calmly across the crowd before finally settling on Liam.

“I came today not only to attend this mate gathering,” he said evenly, “but also to make an announcement.”

He lifted my hand and held it up for everyone to see.

“This is my Luna, Hope Lockwood. Some of you may recognize her. Six years ago, she suffered greatly here.”

“She was humiliated, wronged, and even labeled a madwoman-treated as though she were mentally

unstable.”

A wave of shocked murmurs rippled through the crowd.

“Hope Lockwood? That name sounds familiar. Wasn’t she the Luna Alpha Liam rejected six years ago?”

“Yes, I remember. Didn’t she cause a huge scene back then, saying she caught him cheating?”

“But the matter was suppressed later. I heard she was just a mental patient who wandered in by mistake.”

Thomas surveyed the room with quiet authority. His voice rang out, steady and unmistakable.
